Patricia's Story
After graduation I went to Victoria College for two years then to Texas A & I (now A & M Kingsville) for two years where I met my husband of 47 years, Art Burgoyne from San Antonio. When Art graduated, we moved to Port Lavaca where he was an engineer with Bauer Dredging. When Bauer was sold, we moved with ouir three sons to Fairhope, AL, a little piece of heaven, story-book town on Mobile Bay. After only a year there, the company was sold and we moved to the New Orleans area where we have been for 37 years. I taught third grade in Seadrift 1966-68. In 1977, I became a real estate agent, something I had always wanted to do since high school. Some of you will remember that I "instigated" the purchase of my parent's first home in Brookhollow in 1960 and the sale of our home in Seadrift when I decided I really wanted to be in Port Lavaca!! During lunch break in high school we would drive around looking at new homes until I found one I didn't think my mother could resist!!
In 2002, I took the position of Director of Relocation for our company. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience which I did for 8.5 years only to think I wanted to manage...Expand for more
an office!! I am again listing and selling and it feels like retirement I enjoy it so much. It also allows me the opportunity to travel which i really missed!
Art is still with Bean Dredging but works 4 days a week.
We have six grandchildren, two of which are here in Slidell, Avery-6 and Sarah-2.5. Son Jim is Audio Engineer with a local Audio Company. His wife Anjele is the office manager for the company.
Oldest son Cliffe, wife Kate and Trey-12 and Chandler-10 live in Fayetteville, NC. Stationed at Ft Bragg, Cliffe is being promoted to Sgt. Major. They will go to Ft. Bliss in June for the Sgt. Major school for a year and then who knows where they will be!
Youngest son, Jeffrey, wife Shanna and Tayler-16, JT (Jr.) 3.5 live near Columbus, GA. Jeff is a Major with the 3rd ID at Ft. Benning. Shanna retired last year as a Captain and is a "cheer mom" , soon to be a soccer mom when JT gets a bit older.
That's my story in a nutshell. We get back to PL as often as possible to see my mother and other relatives. It is sometimes difficult when we have children who live in the opposite direction! Those two will probably retire before we do!
