Patricia's Story

Life Curt (Class of 1967) and I have been married for 47 years and have lived in Falls Village for all but one year of that time. We have three grown children. Jason, 44, (a 1991 grad of Oliver Wolcott) was married to Heather Boyle, (Class of 1997) in 2006. He works as a supervisor at Edward R. Hamilton, Bookseller in Falls Village and she is the Registrar at Hotchkiss School. They own a home in Falls Village. They have given us two grandchildren, Madeline who is 9 and Gavin who is 6 years old. Ethan, 39, (Class of 1996) is a 2000 graduate of Long Island University's Friends' World Program, now known as the Global College. He currently lives in London. He has worked as a national spokesperson for Sunsilk hair products and appeared in a few national weekly magazines. He produced, directed and narrated a documentary film entitled "Work Harder", which was accepted into the 2009 Kent Film Festival. He is the host of the Internet show Doin' It With Ethan and owns a greeting card and accessory business - Fracas Studios. Cathy, 35 (Class of 2001) received a BA degree in Communications from Keene State College in NH. She worked at ESPN for several years, but has now returned to the area to pursue her love of gardening, landscaping and horticulture. I retired from a 37 year teaching career at Kent Center School at the end of the 2005 school year. Five months later I was elected First Selectman of the Town of Canaan (Falls Village) after serving ten years on the Board of Selectmen. After twelve years as first selectman with a total of twenty two years all together, I retired this November. I am currently serving on the local board of education and am the chairman. I also serve as our town's representative on the Regional School District NO One Board of Education. I am secretary of our town's Water Commission , chairman of the Board of Directors of the Falls Village Day Care Center, Inc. and am chairman of the Housatonic Valley Regional High School Alumni Association. I am keeping busy! Curt was the head custodian at Kent Center School for 25 of his 26 years there. He retired in April of 2013. He has been ac...Expand for more
tive in our volunteer fire department for over 40 years and served as chief for fifteen years. In January of 2007 he retired from that position, but has continued to be active in other ways. He devotes more time to his hobbies of woodworking and carving and enjoys landscaping and getting enough wood together to keep us well supplied for every heating season. He is a wonderful grandfather! School Gladys Bradshaw, my fourth grade teacher at North Canaan Elementary School and Elaine Scriber, a history teacher at HVRHS were my inspirations in wanting to become a teacher. I almost always enjoyed school and its social atmosphere. The only class I didn't like was Mr. Aherns' (remember his brief stay at the high school?) chemistry class - a brilliant man, but not cut out for teaching high schoolers. I loved being part of various clubs. I only wish that there had been athletics for young women then. I learned a great deal in high school, much beyond the book-learning - skills that helped to lead a positive life and appreciate who you were and from where you came. Ask Sharon Banford and Joann Bogart about sitting in the front row of psychology class our senior year in front of Dr. Stoddard! College I attended St. Joseph College in West Hartford my freshman year and although I liked the girls there, I didn't like the fact that you were required to take so many courses about Catholic religion and philosophy (and I am Catholic!). I transferred to Westfield State College, now Westfield State University in Westfield, MA and lived with my grandparents for the next three years. Living with them for those years is an experience that I will never regret. It taught me so much about my family heritage and about their not so easy lives. I always knew they were wonderful people, but to experience that daily and really get to know them was the chance of a lifetime. I received my BSE at Westfield and 5 years later, soon after Jason was born, I finished my Master's degree. I was a commuter, but we had a great group of friends. One of them moved to this neck of the woods and I've been able to keep in close touch with her.
