Patricia's Story

Life Since 1970, my husband, Pierre, & I have been living in Northwestern Vermont near Lake Champlain. I began my own bookkeeping business in 1981 and am still active in that. My husband retired two years ago after over 30 years in the printing industry. He is also an artist, musician and writer. We have a son and a daughter and three grandsons. We had two Lhasa Apso dogs, until last week, when we lost our female to liver cancer. The male dog is also sick with thyroid cancer and we will probably lose him soon. We also have inherited two male Maine Coon cats from my mother and brother, Laurie, whom many of you will remember. They are brothers, now 12 yrs old, and were foundlings in Revere. I could not put them up for adoption as they have never been with any people other than our family. We have been through a lot of losses in the last couple of years, but most devastating was the loss of my mother in Jan. 2003, and then, shockingly, Laurie last April (2004). One photo I have posted is one of Laurie & I at his 50th surprise birthday pool party in 1998, in my yard. My husband and I co-purchased the house next door to us in 1995 so that my mother, who was totally disabled at the time, could come here to live. (Laurie had been acting as her primary caregiver in Revere at the time, and it was much too difficult a job for a single man.) We enjoyed the next 8-9 years here and they never regretted coming to this state to live. Laurie "computerized" me and I will be forever grateful for that. My mother got to enjoy her first home ever and had a great deal of fun "personalizing it"...Expand for more
with Laurie's (unbeknownst to me) carpentry skills. He was very deft at woodworking and I had had no idea! The second photo is one of my husband, Pierre, and our eldest grandson, Pierre III; this was taken in our back yard under a pine tree that is about 100 ft tall. (I fully expect it to come crashing down on our roof someday!) Over the years, I have enjoyed many hobbies, from needlework of all types, to gardening (still a passion), and creating dollhouses and miniatures. I have a rather large collection at this time and have to pare it down before building anything more (or buy a much larger house!) We entertain a great deal, and have been involved in Sister City exchanges with the Russian city of Yarolslavl since the early 90's (Glasnost era). We have made innumerous friends through this program and we keep in touch with all of them; some have migrated to the US and we have sponsored two of them in this regard. Surprisingly, we don't engage in any winter sports here. We tried a few the first couple of winters, but I decided that, on a subzero day, I preferred the comfort of the fireplace and hot mulled wine to the icy slopes and bitter winds. We built an inground pool in the '80s and have been content to landscape and entertain here, although the season is much too short in Vermont! We both like to "create" things, so we are never idle. The animals have kept us pretty busy, too. So that's my bio! Hope you will drop a line! Ciao, Pat P.S. I see that there have 49 visits to my profile since I posted it; doesn't anyone want to drop a line? Would love to hear from you.
