Patrick's Story
Pat Barron currently lives in Pittsburgh, PA, with three neurotic cats. He is employed by IBM as a software engineer.
I left Philadelphia in 1986 to take a job at the Software Engineering Institute (a research facility funded by the Department of Defense, and operated by Carnegie Mellon University). After spending about two and a half years there, I left to join Transarc Corporation, a computer software firm that was started as a spin-off of Carnegie Mellon. Transarc was eventually bought out by IBM; for a while, it was operated as a subsidary, but in 1999 it was "absorbed" into IBM completely, so as of 1999 I'm officially an employee of IBM....

er software, taking care of computer networks, and working with computer and network security. Most recently, I've taken on some more "management-like" responsibilities, trying to make sure our entire facility runs efficiently and smoothly, and helping to keep our IT staff properly trained, motivated, and focused (otherwise known as "attempting to herd cats"... :-) ). I'm also in the process of writing a book on personal computer security, and another on information technology management.
In whatever spare time I have left (which isn't much...), I'm also the President and Chief Technical Officer of Tiderium Technologies Inc., a technology services firm that I started myself in 2003; search for us on Google to find our web site (which I'd originally put here, but I'm apparently not allowed to do that).
