Patrick's Story
I have nothing but fond memories of Douglas and the people I met there... can't remember why I wanted to leave so badly. I often wonder what happened to people.
I went to the UofA after high school but didn't know what I wanted to do. I joined the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. I played several sports in the Navy but I excelled at volleyball. The team I was on won the Navy's North Atlantic championship. I spent more time doing this than I did doing my real job. I spent time in Groton, Connecticut, Oakland, CA, and Sigonella, Sicily. I met my wife Susan in Groton. She is from California so we ended up there. What a wonderful woman. We both graduated from Fresno State University and settled into life. I stayed in the Naval Reserve and became an officer until health issues force...Expand for more
d me out. Susan is a Physical Therapist. We have a son who just turned 30. My degree and career were in the field of Environemtal Health but I am retired now because of health issues. We have 13 acres of pines and oaks near Grass Valley, CA. I enjoy gardening and taming this wild land. I got my first tractor last Christmas and I am putting it to good use. We produce enough peaches, apples, apricots, plums, tomatoes, and peppers to give some away. Our property produces enough wood to heat our home and to sell some. We live "off grid" relying on solar panels, batteries, and generator for our power needs. We only recently got satellite internet to allow me to do this and to catch up with lost friends.
