Sharon's Story

Life After a couple of bad marriages , I met the love of my life online. He's 11 years younger than me, and we were married in 1998. I have 5 kids, 2 stepsons, a foster daughter, and 6 grandkids. My kids are spread between Massachusetts, California, Illinois, and Iowa.I've lived in Wyoming, Pennsylvania, Colorado, North Dakota, Michigan, Portugal, and now Iowa. I'm a supervisor at URRelay, a relay center for the deaf, and I love it! I'm working the midnight shift, which I never thought I'd do, and it's great. My foster daughter, Heather, and her husband in MA have 4 kids who keep them hopping, and we unfortunately don't get to see them as often as we like. Oldest daughter Kim and her husband Cas are in Leucadia, where he works for my oldest son, John. They have 2 girls, Delphina, 11, and Hero, 3. John owns an audio/video/home theater place, and is doing well. He turned 30 in December 2006, so we all celebrated at a Portuguese restaurant in San Diego. Still single, but with a wonderful girlfriend, Beth. He is still playing soccer, and enjoying life. Kara will be 22 May 2007, and is now back home in CA, living in San Marcos, and working at Target. She couldn't take another Iowa winter, so she's finishing her senior year of college out there, majoring in international studies, Spanish, and probably minoring in Portuguese. Cait got married last January to Matt Fransen, and they are living...Expand for more
in Wheaton IL, where Matt goes to school and works, and Cait works 2 jobs. They love it and are doing great. Glenn is my "baby",if I can say that about a kid that's a half foot or so taller than me. He's 17, a student at Jefferson High School, and a great kid. He recently started his first job at Genghis Grill, working as a grillmaster, and he absolutely loves it! My two stepsons are both grown. Jon is working and living here in Cedar Rapids, and we see him from time to time. Jeremy is back in college, going to the local community college and hoping to get back to U of I. Mark and I are both working long hard hours, hoping to eventually follow the Dead on tour again. For now we make do with whatever U2 shows we can catch, or whichever parts of the Dead are touring. Hoping to catch Slightly Stoopid when we're in the San Diego area. Music is a passion, and it's been sad since Phish stopped touring. Hoping eventually to move somewhere closer to the beach, though I can't see that happening unless URRelay opens a facility somewhere else. I love it too much, and these guys are absolutely great to work for. If I could live wherever I want, I'd be back in the Azores, on Terceira Island, living the good life of street bullfights, great Portuguese beer and wine, the best capuccinos in the world, and lazy days at the beach... I miss those days! Until then, I'm enjoying life in Cedar Rapids.
