Patrick's Story

Life Beautiful wife and 3 daughters. Wife works as a financial auditing consultant for 3 Michigan hospitals. I'm STILL trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow up, but I am a residential appraiser, furniture maker, frustrated author/inventor. The decision to move to Michigan was a tough one, but has paid off richly. My wife is much less stressed, happier and much better paid! Leaving the extended family behind was the biggest struggle. The school system is 2nd to none in the state and the girls are blossoming as a result. I finally have the time to get involved in their lives and the community as I've always desired. We live in a small, but rapidly developing town south of Grand Rapids. The opportunities are huge. School Biggest crush? Kathy Gardner '81 (Didn't aim too high, did I?) Biggest Inspiration: Ron May. His talent and patience awoke a deep, abiding love for song which remains to this day. Favorite Memories: Anytime we were on stage. Football games and Shakey's Pizza. Skipping study hall with Brian Holst. We got away with it forever. The Zoo during sophomore year. Any time spent with Terri, Gonzo, Joe Harrah, Mark Larson, Steve Cartwright, Brian Holst, and all my Troop 43 buddies. The Kimberly Pines crew. You know who you are. Special mention to Dave and Reed...Expand for more
for taking me to see RHPS for the first time. The friends I made there have remained with me to this day. One even moved to Michigan when we did. She works with my wife. Military Boot Camp and "A" school in San Diego in '85. Submarine School and Electronics training in Groton, CT "C" school at Mare Island in Vallejo CA. (Most fun I had in the navy) Went to the USS Phoenix SSN-702 in '87. Norfolk VA. She wasn't the belle of the ball, but she always brought us home. Some of the finest men I've ever met served on her. I wanted to get on with my life, get married, and start a family, but there was no way I could put my future wife and kids through the pain and separation requisite for a submariner's family, so I left when my tour on the Phoenix was complete. My biggest regret: Not taking the billet on the Range Sentinel either time it was offered. 2 year skate billet in Cocoa Beach. Neutral duty. Would have been heaven. But, if I had, I'd never have met my wife, nor been given the gift of these 3 girls I love so much. Squids I miss: Dave Quinton (the 2nd musketeer) Timmy Weichel (the 3rd musketeer) Marty Noe Mike Henderson B.J. Huse Chuck Meyers (my brother from another mother) Mike Narretto Rookie Pete Amato Keith Zegan Craig Dishner T.C. Cruse Theresa Morris (last, but in no way least)
