1961-1962: UT in Austin.
1962: married at 19-what a dumb move!
1963-1965: finished college at UH in Houston with a major in English and minor in Education.
1965-1966: Pasadena ISD-2cd grade (boring.!) We lived in Pasadena, Texas. Husband- Manager KIKK radio, Houston.
1966-1971: 3 children in 4 years-1 son and 2 daughters. They were all born in Fort Worth, Texas. Husband managed KBUY radio in Fort Worth.
1971-1972: Husband managed radio station in Beaumont, Texas.
1972-1975:Husband managed #1 black radio station in New Orleans, Louisiana. We lived in Metairie on Lake Ponchartrain.
1975-2000: Moved to Denton, Texas. Owned and operated 3 newspapers-one "hometown", the Denton Business Journal and the Lewisville Business Journal. First husband and I were extremely successful with this career change. I was there for 25 years (good grief!). I LOVED owning the newspaper business, but left after divorce in order to move and marry my second husband.
2000-2006: Married Robert Atkins (another of life's strange twists and ...Expand for more
turns), both of us R.E.L. class of 1961 and now live in Bryan/College Station. If his ex-wife, Janis Dewees, lets me work at Brazos Natural Foods (Robert owns 50% & Janis-50%), I will work for the rest of my life doing the things I more than know how to do. Hard to imagine working with your ex-wife and ex-husband every day, isn't it?
My older daughter, Lee Ann-age 39, has run the newspapers with incredible efficiency since I left in 2000. She is a blond bombshell with an enormously high I.Q. She had worked in Chicago at Coopers/Lybrand (now Price/Waterhouse/Coopers). Blake Patrick-age 36, helps run the newspapers with his older sister, doing Sports, Photography, Writing). Julie Lynne-age 35, is a top executive with AMEX-now a Junior Vice President!-her success is due to brains and persistance (and her looks don't hurt!) I have 4 grandchildren-from still handsome Blake Patrick and his wife (the very beautiful former Katie Henry). Their children are Patrick Henry (called "Hank")-age 5 and Emily Alexis-age 4. From Julie and her husband, Jay Slifer, there is Avery Hewitt-age 3 and Kendall Shannon-age 1.
