Patti's Story

Life My life has been an interesting series of events. It seems so long ago I lived in Pullman Washington. I do go back to visist, as my sister lives in Spokane. Like everything, it has changed and yet some of the same things are there. Mostly the memories. It was a good place to grow up. Last summer I had the previledge of taking my oldest granddaughters there. They are now 15 and 13.In 1970 I married a Hopi Indian I met in Arizona. Through the course of time I ended up in Phoenix Az where I have lived since 1983. I was married only 13 years and the year I moved here my marriage was over. I had four children, 2 boys and 2 girls to raise. I was forturnate to get a job at a utility company, after going to a brief computer programing school. After 13 years as a housewife and a mother, I had to do something. This year I will have 22 years with that company. I work in Customer Service in a business office and enjoy my work. Besides my two oldest granddaughters I mentioned, my youngest daughter has a 5 year old daughter which makes 3 wonderful granddaughters that I spend alot of time with even though they don't live here. Phoenix has grown alot in the time I have been here. We do have very hot summers. You don't ever really get used to them, but learn to survive them. It is the winters, when some of you are being rained on or scraping ice off your windows, and I am wearing a light jacket or none at all. I miss the four seasons, especially Fall. We don't have that, but in Arizona you can drive 3 hours north and experience winter if you want to. My very favorite place on earth is Sedona. It is my home away from home. I visit often and have some good friends there. It is a place of wonder; breath taking beauty, peaceful energy and a small town. I go hiking there when I can and spend every summer for a week at my time share. ...Expand for more
Using my time share I have gone to Maui twice, Kawaii twice and hope to go again. It is another home away from home. Life has been a journey of self discovery. It has not been "normal" but fun and enlightening. It seems so long ago I was 18 and leaving Pullman, thinking I knew everything. At almost 57(jan 17) I have learned there is so much more. I wouldn't trade my life for any ones. I have been blessed in so many ways. I would love to hear from any of the old gang. When I go to Pullman, I spend time with Nancy Bowmer Lamb. Despite the years and our lives have been different, at the heart we are still the same. She is married to Gordy Lamb, who was a friend of my brother's. It is always wonderful to see them. On the night of our senior trip, I said goodbye to so many of you I have not seen since. It would be good to hear how your lives have gone. When you add up the years it has been along time and yet it seems yesterday we were all hanging out at the Youth Center or a school dance. What else was there to do in Pullman? That was our beginning, there has been alot inbetween, and there still is plenty ahead. Life is about loving, starting with yourself. Mine has been nothing close to what I dreamed it would be, but better. I have learned when I let go and let things happen there are always surprises. Some are good, some seem to be not so good but it does all work together to make it interesting. I'm not bored, how about you? The most important thing I have learned in my life is to love people. Not just the "in crowd" I used to be a part of, but everyone. I have learned to listen to others and when I do I realize every time we are not that different. I would call that growing up and it is about time. I would love to expand my circle of friends. Let me know what in the world happened to you. Patti Bradley Dallas.
