Patty's Story
My biggest surprise has been the number of careers that have come my way and how each one had a reason. After finding High School very challenging at times (as well as distracting) I now work in the education field with elementary special education students. Prior to the last 8 years here, I attended NOVA for a year, co-managed a tack store, worked for an electrician who had taken over a failed company. There I learned everything one wanted to learn about the Local 26, and the IRS. I developed a sense of cost accounting which came in handily 5 years later. worked as a cost analyst for a defense contractor for several years until my family expanded. I have 2 beautiful teen daughters, 1 horse crazy and 1 volleyball prone. After they were enrolled in school I accepted the invitation from a client in my horse business to work in the dental field. I did everything from scheduling appointments to assisting in surgery. At one point I worked for 3 different practices at the same time. Then the elementary school setting caught my interest and I was hired on at my daughters school. All along I have run a large horse boarding business here on Hunter Mill Road which is really a landmark. My husband David and I are working on our 28th year of marriage.
