Workplace
When Sac Army Depot got on the hit list for closure, Clarissa says to me: "Hey, come take this State test for Office Assistant." So I take the test, and about 3 months later I'm getting like 10 job thingies in the mail a day! I was going broke buying stamps to answer them all. I started with the State at PERS, then...Expand for more
to BOE, then Corrections, then back to BOE, then back to Corrections, and my final journey with CalTrans led to my retirement in April 2005 with 15 yrs service. After moving to El Paso, I was hired on at Ft. Bliss within a month and worked in the best place ever - Dept. of Public Works. Ernie was the best boss ever and Roy great to learn the ropes from. In May 2006 I resigned to move to Cedar Hill (following my husbands empyment) and am currently in semi-retirement, looking for a pink-collar job at the VA Hospital or other Federal Agency close by .....
Military
It was during the era of Haight-Ashbury and the draft, that I decided to enlist in the Air Force (it had the shortest boot-camp - 6-weeks). That was June 1971. My entire tour was at Travis AFB and with an early-out to go to school ... I left in Dec 1973. In Dec 1976 I joined the Army Reserves and completed the 1-1/2 years I felt obligated to finish out my previous 4-yr commitment with the Air Force. In 1980, I started my career with Federal Civil Service -- in the Air Force Recruiting office ... and in March 1980 enlisted in the Air Force Reserves ... retiring in June 1998 <retirement #1 - annuity at age 60>. I stayed in the same office for almost the entire 18 years ... the 940th Avionics Maintenance Sq. Everyone was great along my journey.
