Patty's Story

Life I think we can skip the early years and go straight to the after high school years. For awhile I was a very sucessful college drop out. Managing to drop out of three colleges in as many years. Of course, I was doing it in grand style, spending all my time and money camping, backpacking and Indian dancing. Unfortunatly, my parents were a little unhappy with that plan and stopped funding my education. So I went to work. :( Well, that worked out real well. I loved all 27 jobs I had in the next 4 years!! At the ripe old age of 25 my first son, Cody, made his apperance into the world. At that point I realized I had to get a little more serious about making a living and went to nursing school graduating in 1990 with my ADN just 6 weeks before my youngest son, Nicholas, showed up. I have loved every minute of nursing. It has accomodated my ADD by allowing me to change jobs frequently with no loss of pay or change in status. I have done every type of nursing but for the last 5 years have been a "well born nursery" nurse. I occasionally do some special care nursery but "well born" is where I prefer to be. After finally having found my nich in life, building a house on my parents farm, and carving out the perfect life with two delightful little boys the Lord threw me a curve ball. I met, online, a man that seemed to be perfect. Only problem was, he was an Air Force officer and wanted to disrupt my cosy little country life. Capt. Matt Pirko was persistent, finally wore me down, and after 8 years of marriage I am finally realizing he really is perfect, at least for me! Matt is now a major, soon to board for Lt. Col. He has dragged us all over the world now and we LOVE it!! Seems our boys are as ADD as me and they really don't mind moving and meeting new people. We now live in Northen Italy and LOVE it!! The country is beautiful, the people are friendly and welcoming and the food is simply unbelievable, not to mention the travel opportunites in Europe. The shopping in Europe is pretty great too. :)Unfortunatly, as with all Air Force assignments, this one will end next summer (2004). We would like to stay in Europe but that just may not happen. My parents still live on the farm in Elm Mott so we are always through there. I would love to come to reunions or whatever is going on. Well it has been a year and as we feared the A...Expand for more
ir Force found out we liked it here so they are making us move. Oh darn, we have to move to Tampa, Fl. We close on a house there 14 July 04 and should be ready for visitors mid-Aug. :) Wow!! What a time we have had in Florida. No less than 3 hurricanes in about a months time!! I was a little unhappy there for awhile but, now that it is winter, and I am still running around in shorts, I think this may not be such a bad place to be. we would love to have visitors if anybody is tired of the cold soggy Texas weather.:) Well to continue the running blog here.... it is now Christmas time 2005. What a year this has been. Matt spending 3 months over in the desert and returning home safely,my whole family in for summer vacation and then the hurricanes. I quit my job at Disney and went with our church to do relief work in Pascagoula MS. Stayed for a month and have never worked harder and never been more blessed. When I returned it was time to for Matt to "pin on" LTC. After 16 1/2 years in the AF it is a well deserved rank. We partied with friends and family all weekend. But the AF can't do anything nice without something equally distasteful to balance it SOOOO, we are moving to Grand Forks, ND this summer. OK, so I am still warm.(May 2007) The AF changed our orders and we stayed in Florida, looks like we will be here for 2 more years until Matt retires in 2009! Well 2008 has been a year and not a particularly good one. We are still in Florida but thank heavens Matt's retirement is almost here. The official date is 01 April but the ceremony should be the end of Jan. WOO HOO!! We will of course hang around in Florida until our youngest graduates high school in May. He is leaving for Marine Corp boot camp on Jun 08. One getting out one going in what's a girl to do. :) My sister Paula was diagnosed with breast cancer in March. It was a long hard road to get her through chemo and radiation. When I returned home I started persuing a preventitive mastectomy. I am now in the midst of that. Recovering from the original surgery with tissue expansion and at least one more surgery on the horizon. Painful process but at least I have greatly reduced my own breast cancer risk. Matt and I anticipate moving back to central Texas soemtime next summer. We would love to see friends. Also, if anyone wants a Florida vacation time is running out!!
