Paul's Story

I joined the Air Force right after high school graduation because I knew I was too young to know what I wanted from college. I was lucky. The Air Force sent me to Yale for 12 months to learn Chinese. I was fairly fluent when I left (still speak a little) and was put to work as a spy on the Chinese Air Force. It was less exciting than it sounds. I left the Air Force at age 21 and enrolled at Chaffey College, very hungry for whatever I could learn. Three semesters later I received a scholarship to Pomona College where I majored in English and Philosophy. I thought I wanted to get a PhD but quit...Expand for more
graduate school after a year and became a journalist. I was married in 1968 and divorced in 1975 when I was working as a documentary film producer/writer. I worked in television for awhile longer and then quit. That was my first retirement at the age of 35. (I was not rich.) I stayed away from work for a few years until I decided to go into business for myself as a headhunter. i did this for 20 years and retired for the last time in 2004. I was married for the second time in 1986 and have remained so since then. (Good fortune came my way at last.) No children. No desires. No fears.
