Paul's Story
Life
My wife, Susan, and I celebrated our 30th anniversary this august, (07).. I am the proud father of four, Kelli (83), who graduated from LeTourneau Univ., Jillianne (85),graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic University in west palm beach Florida, Brittany (86), graduates spring 08 from Oklahoma Baptist Univ. and our son Sherrod (91) is a junior at Arlington HS. Just started my PhD in criminology after taking it easy for a couple of years after 28 years in the public sector working in the juvenile justice arena.
School
didn't really have a love interest in HS but made up for it when i left home for college. I guess that some teacher would have inspired me if I had gone to class more and hung out in the cafeteria, patio area and in the City less. If I had to do it all over again I would have made more of each day.
One of my funniest memories is one of the few times I was in the library I was enjoying looking out at the ocean and I noticed two friends of mine coming out of a manhole like thing on the hill with all of the ice plant leading down to the gym. The smoke that followed them out as they came out of the ground left no doubt as to what extra curricular activity they had been engaged in.
one of my favorite memories is playing football and beating Terra Nova my senior year at our field.
Fond memories of "BlocK Schedules", what a great way to not go to class. ...Expand for more
We used to "road test" our cars during our auto shop class and drive into the city for the rest of the day or go over to sausalito. It was a great place and time to be alive. My fondest memory however is that I did NOT get drafted and sent to Vietnam after graduation as happened to so many young men of our generation.
College
was fortunate to receive a four year full ride scholarship to Biola University in La Mirada Calif. and spent most of my time and eneergy during college playing soccer and enjoying southern California weather. I got the opportunity to live in Huntington Beach for a while which was great however it didn't help my grades any. Met my wife Susan in college and we have been in love ever since.
Workplace
worked in the juvenile justice field in a variety of locations, New Jersey, Baltimore, Md. Sarasota Florida and all over Texas. I enjoyed living in NJ as it was so easy to get into NYC and all the things that great city offers. Our favorite place to live was Austin Tx. by far as it reminded me so much of the Bay Area. Retired and living in Arlington Texas having started back to school again to earn my Phd in Criminology and hoping to teach at a small liberal arts college.
Always planned on moving back to the Bay Area but the real estate got away from the middle class and could never arrange it. For those of you lucky enough to be there enjoy it!
