Paul's Story

Life Balto and Patterson Park friends: When people here inquire about me, I always end up talking about Baltimore, a city that I love. And whenever I talk about Baltimore, I end up talking about Patterson Park, Highlandtown, Eastern Avenue, etc. My favorite places. After Patterson, Bucknell, army, Bucknell again, Johns Hopkins, Geo Washinton. Career in teaching. Former students: After 10 very happy years at Mont Blair, I transf to Paint Branch in 1969, the year that PB opened. Another 12 happy years, esp Orientation to Lang and Humanities courses. Sadly, moved from Paint Branch to Springbrook, the most miserable experience of my career. I left Sbrook and taught at Magruder for the rest of my career. Retired from high school teaching in 1985. Traveled in Europe for one year, spending most of my time in Florence. Arranged to return to the US but stopped off at Cornwall, England, and met a lady whom I later married...Gloria. That's how I ended up living in England. She had a three year old at the time and she wanted him to go through the English schools. He's out of school now but we're still here. When I returned to the US in November 1986 from my year in Europe, I started teaching at the Detention Centre for Mont Coll. I taught there for three years while I was corresponding with Gloria. For those of you who took my course in Greek and Latin in English, you'll be interested to know th...Expand for more
at I taught basically the same course at the jail. When I decided to live in England I was very sorry to leave the jail teaching as it was really the most rewarding of my life. In my classes were criminals of all sorts, although the teachers were not supposed to know what they had done. Better that way. Son Brian is a pianist who gets to Europe at least once a year and we always meet up, usually in Italy where we occasionally visit our relatives there. Daughter Nicole is a successful chiropractor, office in Kensington if your back ever bothers you and youneed a real treatment. We have three British children, one of whom is getting married on Aug 20 in Limerick, Ireland. I'm trying to play the good American by getting involved in community afairs and charity stuff. I'm really getting too involved and I hope to relax a bit after this year. I haven't glided off Mt Blanc yet and at 73 I'd better get going. I love travel in Europe preferably to cities. I hate beaches and spend most of my holidays with historical pursuits and art. Gloria is a legal secretary. I get to the US at least once every year, usually around Thanksgiving. I know this business of "returning to the past" is a bit dodgy, esp for a teacher, but I'm interested in how my former students are doing and how life has treated them. After all, the students I taught in 1959 are now 60 years old. Great scott! I thought I was old.
