Paul's Story

Life Paul Haschak is the Founder and Executive Editor of E-JASL: The Electronic Journal of Academic and Special Librarianship. Since 1999, E-JASL is published by the International Consortium for the Advancement of Academic Publication (ICAAP) in Athabasca, Alberta, Canada. E-JASL is commited to the concept of open access for academic research. A little about the ICAAP: Since ICAAP's inception in 1998, research and development has focused on creating technologies to facilitate sophisticated delivery of educational content. In our short existence, we have developed a range of technologies that allow scholarly journals, educational institutions, and others concerned with networked delivery of information, easy and inexpensive access to sophisticated technologies. Our goal has always been to fully exploit the potentials of information technology to lower the cost of producing information online. Haschak is the author/editor of 3 books: Utopian/Dystopian Literature (Scarecrow, 1994); Corporate Statements (McFarland, 1998), and New Challenges Facing Academic Librarians Today (Mellen, 2005). For over 17 years he worked at Sims Memorial Library. Haschak's last position there he served as an Associate Professor and the Collection Development Librarian on the campus of Southeastern Lousiana University in Hammond, LA. In January 2007, Haschak accepted a position in the University Library on the campus of the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL. Beginning in 2010, Haschak works at Xavier University of Louisiana, in New Orleans, Louis...Expand for more
iana. For 3 years (1998-2001), Haschak was the About.com (formerly the Mining Co.) Guide to Track and Field. Besides writing a bimonthly newsletter, he wrote feature articles and maintained an ever-changing subject Guidesite, including a bulletin board, a chat room, and a list of classified links. For 3 years (1992-1995), Haschak edited Notes and Tracings, the newsletter of the Academic Section of the Louisiana Library Association. Haschak was acknowledged for his research help in two recent books, Creationism's Trojan Horse: The Wedge of Intellectual Design (Oxford University Press, 2004) by Barbara Forrest (who appeared on the Larry King Show about Intelligent Design) and Paul R. Gross and Bread and Respect: The Italians of Louisiana (Pelican Publishing, 2002) by A. V. Margavio and Jerome J. Salomone (Professor Emeritus of Sociology and Dean Emeritus of the College of Arts and Sciences). Haschak taught the following courses at Southeastern Louisiana University: Library Science 102 (LS 102) Bibliography (1-credit) and Chemistry 150 (Chem 150) Chemical Information Sources (2-credits). Mr. Haschak planned, organized, and taught Chem 150 under the auspices of Southeastern's Chemistry/Physics Department. Considering he flunked high school chemistry, this was a real accomplishment!!!!! He has been married over 15 years and lives in Hammond, LA. I also hope to publish a book about thoroughbred horse racing. This might be the end result of going to a high school across the street from two race tracks (Thistledown and Randall Park).
