Paul's Story

Life Graduated from North Forsyth Senior High in 1981. Participated in Track, Chorus and Cross Country. Pretty quiet back then and some still consider me that way to this date. Attended Winston-Salem State University for a couple of years, from 1981-83 before enlisting into the U.S. Navy. Married with one child. Retired from U.S. Navy in March of 2006 after 23 years of Active Duty Honorable Service. Currently residing in Chesapeake Va. Relocated to Washington DC area for new Federal employment opportunity, and transferred to Norfolk Va after 10 Months in the DC area. I'm looking forward to the next Class of 1981 Reunion, whenever that may be. I missed the last one due to being away on military obligations. School My best school experience was during the Cross Country season. The training/conditioning for the upcoming track season was fun. I enjoyed the training and being with the team. My favorite Coach was Mr. Scott Brent, I appreciate the fact that he took the time to train me and recognize I was no superstar but I worked harder than most of the people on the team. Eventhough I never won but one victory during competition during the 1980 Track season. He showed some class, recognized the shortcoming and acknowledged that during our banquet, and presented me with a trophy for most dedicated. I felt good about the entire season and realized it was not something that he had to do but he did and I truly appreciated it and always have for the rest of my life. d High School Sporting Events. Eventhough it will be a while before my son attends a High School. Supporting local school events is very important to kids in the neighborhood whether they are yours or not. So the next time a child knocks on your door, remember, they need your support. Now you probably wonder why I got such a late start with kids. Well I planned it that way. The plan was to be able to watch and assist my child as he/she grew up in life, so I would be there for him/her while he/she was coming up. And wouldn't have to worry about being Retired and by the time I settled down, he would not be out of the house, this way. I would not miss out on him growing up. Well we were Blessed for things to happen as they did. One thing I think we need to teach our kids is to learn to Invest early in life. Buy Savings Bonds, CD's or pick a compnay that they always buy products at the store, and invest in the company. $10 per week or month. Whatever you can afford. Just as long as they get the idea behind it. Although I wasn't the most popular kid in school. I learned later on in life to love myself first then I would be able to share me with others. I've had some tremendous travel experiences. From Africa, England, Italy, France, Spain, Amterdam, Poland, Germany. East Coast West Coast, Bahamas, Jamaica, Egypt, Israel, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Jordan, Panama Canal, Bahrain etc... and still haven't seen it all. But there are still place I long to see right here at home. There is no place like the USA.
