Paul's Story

I attended KU in architecture, graduating in 1971. I worked for a number of years as a hospital architect. I worked on St. Joseph in KC, Queen Alia Heart Institue in Jordan among others. Since 1988 I have been invoved in sports architecture. I have worked for some of the largest design firms in the US. I was a founder of the Ellerbe Becket sports practice in KC in 1988. I was responsible for the European work among other things. The Manchester, UK arena and Oberhausen, Germany projects were mine. I traveled a great deal and even had an apartment in the UK for a couple of years. I had many great experiences and a have a lot of stories. across from West a true towny experience, managing major projects for Purdue University, and working on design and construction claims. I enjoy working for myself after spending so much time with large design firms. I married Julie Fitzell (Washington class of '67) in 1974. We are still happily married. We enjoy a house at the Lake of the Ozarks. We live in a midcentury modern house in old Leawood with lots of glass, exposed beams and deck. It's an architect's house. We have also lived in Brookside, KCMO, Lawrence, and Atlanta. Most of our time has been in the KC area. I have always been a car guy. I still am, but have never owned anything very exotic. I have always done drawing and painting. I still do when time allows.
