Paul's Story
I had a story posted here that seems to have slipped away and disappeared so here it is along with a few new bits.
After graduating I spent a month in the Dominican Republic visiting friends. Then I tried Junior college for a while. I married the love of my life in 1975 and quit school and moved to Dallas. There weren't any decent jobs at home then. After about a year, homesickness kicked in and I went to work for the county cutting grass. I got fired for sleeping on the job and joined the Air Force. I became a mechanic on cargo planes and was stationed at Little Rock. I flew all over Europe, the Middle east and north Africa. My wife divorced me early in my Air Force years.
I moved to Denver to join my family after I finished my tour. My military experience proved to be worthless in the job market unless you go to another school for FAA certification. They had nothing new to teach me and by the time I was ready to test I realized that I wasn't really interrested in the field anymore. The only entry level jobs available at the time were in Houston, of all places.
Then I went to Electronics school at a community college and have worked in the field ever since. I spent sev...Expand for more
eral years teaching electronics there for added income. All the good jobs in electronics have moved overseas or to California so I am working part time at a very small company waiting to retire. In `73 I bought my first NEW car. a Dodge Challenger. I haven't seen a new car I liked enough to buy, so I Still have it and it runs great. In `81 I joined a mens Soccer league team made up mostly of French pastry chefs, and bread bakers and a sprinkling of other Europeans, and Central Americans and a Hatiian. We played in Denver and Boulder. I stayed with that for six years before everyone went their separate ways. I went to Nascar races and Rock concerts on into the nineties when I started to settle down. Now I mostly work, do movies and build and rebuild and otherwise play on my PC(s).
Though I've been here much longer than I was in Florida, I grew up in Cocoa Beach and Merritt Island so I will always consider it to be my home. It's been four years since I was there to sell my house and the whole county has changed so much...But not as much as it has here. The places I remember are still there, with different names on them, and I envy every one of you who found a way to stay.
