Paul's Story

Life 1980-1988 United States Air Force: So, the Reagan Era had no US WARS and was a "peacetime" period according to the US Veterans Administration and misinformed public: Reagan officially declared "War on Drugs", (just like Bush declaring "War on Terror") hence war on ALL of Latin America and the media stayed home. In addition to the Global WAR ON DRUGS, Reagan never "Just said NO to:" Angola - 1976-92 - The US Military & CIA backed South African rebels fighting against Marxist Angola. US Military Advisors, Executive Outcomes and other Merc agencies gainfully employed by US. Philippines - 1980-Present - Direct US engagements and US Advisory training in response to the New People's Army, CPPP, MNLF, Abu Saiff, etc, etc. Iran - 1980 - Americans aborted a rescue attempt to liberate 52 hostages seized in the Teheran embassy; eight Americans were killed. Ross Perot declares personal war, hires mercs as CEO of EDS and later runs for president. Libya - 1981 - American fighters shoot down two Libyan fighters. Ground observers in country. El Salvador - 1981-92 - The CIA, US Military troops and advisers aid in El Salvador's war against the FMLN. Nicaragua - 1981-90 - The CIA and NSC directed the Contra War against the Sandinistas. Extensive US Military troop deployments. Lebanon - 1982-84 - Marines occupied Beirut during Lebanon's civil war; 241 were killed in the American barracks and Reagan "redeployed" the troops to the Mediterranean (excluding those left to get some payback through 1987). Honduras - 1983-89 - Troops sent in to build bases and air fields near the Honduran border. Anyone remember the highly televised nightclub bombing? Grenada - 1983-84 - American invasion overthrew the Maurice Bishop government. Iran - 1984 - American fighters shot down two Iranian planes over the Persian Gulf. Libya - 1986 -...Expand for more
American fighters hit targets in and around the capital city of Tripoli. US troops on the ground in country. Bolivia, Columbia, Peru, Mexico, Panama - 1980-1988 - The USAF & Army assisted government troops on raids of cocaine and marijuana areas. Iran - 1986-88 - The United States intervened on the side of Iraq during the Iran-Iraq War. Tons of weapons and support flown into and routed from Jordan, Turkey & Pakistan. In 1978 President Carter authorized the CIA to provide financial and other forms of support to the opponents of the Sandinistas in Nicaragua. This support was continued throughout the Reagan administration. In 1982 and 1983, the CIA plotted to assassinate General Ahmed Dlimi, a Moroccan officer who sought to overthrow the Moroccan monarchy. In December of 1982, CIA Director William Casey told the House of Representatives and the Senate Intelligence Committees that President Reagan had authorized the CIA to try to topple the government of Suriname's ruler, Colonel Desi Bouterse. In 1983 the Nicaraguan government accused the CIA twice of hatching a plot to kill Foreign Minister Miguel d'Escoto. The CIA proposed a plan to assassinate Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi in 1986 as part of bombing missions carried out by American warplanes over Libya. Qadaffi's house was hit, and an adopted child was killed. President Reagan authorized an aborted attempt at influencing the 1987 Haitian elections to keep leftist Jean-Bertrand Aristide from being elected president. And these are just the highlites of headlines never printed! Nevermind such trivial event of fullscale support of the Afgan fighters in support against the war with the invading Soviet Union or the never ending UN missons in Cambodia since the Reagan era. NEXT CONFLICT: Africa, for securing oil, why else...bases already being built in 2007 for preparation.
