In Sept 1962 I was enroute to another WESPAC cruise when we were turned around and returned to San Diego went to the Cuban crisis, down through the Panama Canal and over off the coast of Cuba somewhere. After the showdown, we returned to San Diego and left again for WESPAC. I fell in love with the Seattle area during our yard period and put in for a transfer. As luck would have it I got transfered to another LSD up the road in Long Beach, U.S.S. Carter Hall LSD 3. I made one more WESPAC cruise on Carter Hall, this time we went to Vietnam on a couple of occasions, fortunately the war was just getting started. I got out of the Navy in November 1964.
