Paul's Story
He was born Sept. 20, 1936, in Rankin and graduated from Rankin High School in 1955. He received his bachelor's degree from Sul Ross College in 1961 and his master's degree from West Texas State University in 1968. He married Pilar Martinez on July 13, 1957, in Presidio.
He moved to Hereford in 1962 from Presidio. He began his teaching career at Central Elementary School in Hereford in special education and then served as vice principal. He continued at Stanton Junior High in special education and also taught at Plainview High School and Presidio High School. He retired in 2000.
He and his wife co-owned Mrs. Abalos restaurant for more than 30 years. He had hosted "The Paul Abalos Show" on a television station in Amarillo and was a disc jockey on KPAN Radio for the Spanish program.

r of Commerce, Kiwanis Club and Rotary Club and was a city commissioner. He was sworn in Dec. 17 as a school board member. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and a member of the Cursillistas.
Twin granddaughters preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Paul Jr. of Hereford and Roger of Corpus Christi; three daughters, Dolores Esparza of Red Oak, Grace Patino of Odessa and Billie Jean Villarreal of San Antonio; 10 brothers, Buzz of Hereford, Frank, Richard, Rosendo, Lasaro Jr., Jesse and George, all of Odessa, Johnny of Levelland, Selso of Rankin and Lupe of San Angelo; three sisters, Linda Rojas and Victoria Dominguez, both of Odessa, and Martha Black of Rankin; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
