Paul's Story

My Life Hello Alumni, It's been many years since I have seen anybody from my high school days at Wasson. May of 2015 was 40 years since my graduation. Obviously we have all dramatically changed and we have all endured the triumphs and tragedies of life. For that reason the thirty year reunion was something I was interested in, but was unable to attend due to my work while living abroad in Okinawa. If you have taken the time to look me up then let me say thank you. It's not often that anyone wants to hear about my life and lol my kids get bored when I tell them about the days when I was young but none the less this is my story: Life began for me on Dec 24, 1956. I was born in Meadville Pennsylvania, were upon we promptly left and I have not returned since. My father was in the United States Air Force and so we left the U.S. when I was two years old. We moved to Spain and at age 4 , I remember falling in love with our Spanish maid named Dule. She had long black hair and that's the most I remember about her. By the time I was ready to start school we came to Colorado. I went to Mark Twain elementary from kindergarten through the 5th grade. From 6th to the 8th grade I lived in the country of Panama. For my freshman year we returned to Colorado and I attended East Junior High. When High School rolled around I was so excited to go to Wasson. I had a great time with school, friends, track, cross country, etc. Let me share the things I loved about Wasson. First of all I loved the pride and tradition that the Wasson teachers and staff taught us. I liked my teachers and thought highly of them. Too bad my head wasn't in the right place. I wasn't about to do all my homework and so my ...Expand for more
grades suffered from it. None the less, I have always loved learning and that passion has only intensified with the passing of time. As for friends well as you all remember we all grouped into those clicks we felt the most comfortable with. As you may remember I crossed over from one group to the next. I had friends who were Jocks, Geeks, Freaks, Cowboys, Hard Rock types, Hispanics (in those days Chicanos), and Blacks. I liked and hung out with a lot of different people and still do to this day. I believe God made us all and that makes us all special. Track and Cross County was a blast. I was too skinny to have done anything else. Fortunately I could fly when it came to running (my best 2 mile was 10:04) and I wish I was capable of doing that now. My favorite practice run was through Palmer Park. Had I focused, I could have been a State contender, a good lesson in life, not to hold back or be distracted. As for school parties, thank goodness it was the seventies. We had so much fun and yet we were so irresponsible. Those were carefree days. Enough said on that. After graduation I worked for a year doing odd jobs. Finally I joined the Air Force in 1976 and I have worked for the government ever since. Presently, I live in Texas and work as an Aircraft Maintenance Manager at Laughlin AFB and I am retired CMSgt from the Air Force Reserve. As for where I have been during my adult life, well I traveled the world. I've been to every continent except Africa. There is more to tell but I will save that for another time. I hope all is well with you as it is for me. God bless you all. "As for me and my house we shall serve the lord" he has certainly blessed my family and me. Paul Gwinnup
