Paula's Story
WOW!!! 37 years later and here we are.
After the summer of 1971 I attended college and went into the medical field. I married a 1967 graduate of El Cap who had just returned from Vietnam. It did not work. In 1977 I moved to Ramona.
I worked in the medical field, working for Physicians both front and back office. I started at Health Application Systems in 76 pioneering the first computer filed medical forms for Champus and Blue Shield direct from "medical form" to computer without using the middle person to to do code. We did it all cutting out the middle person. It was early data entry using actual medically trained people.. This way you did not have some 18 year old doing data entry that did not know the difference between a broken humorous vs a broken heart. There were more approved claims done ...much more quickly making everyone happy and saving millions of dollars. Medically trained people in charge of your life. Imagine that!!!! I was one of the 2 people doing only Lab.
I then ended up working General Practice and Pediatrics in Ramona not far from home. It was nice not having to drive up highway 67 anymore. In those days it was known as Slaughter House highway. I was also very lucky to work with Doctor Mitchell and his wife and family. They took me in and treated me like a daughter. Some people in Ramona still think I am. Doc's death was almost as hard as my own daddy's death.
I spent most weekends fishing the canals of El Centro in the Imperial Valley fishing for catfish, camping, taking all the kids to BMX Bike races, skate board parks or surfing at the beach. I was also a soccer mom. I made the banners for the teams.
My life changed in 1995 I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior and I am a Believer. I took a wonderful road trip across the USA from San Diego, CA across the south to Florida and up the East Coast to New England, hanging a right into New Brunswick. It is my best memory I have. It was "enough". God is awesome!!!
Since then I have traveled to Mazatlan, Mexico with my cousin Mike Class of 65, with his S.O. Cece and my Aunt.....spent time in Sante Fe, N...Expand for more
M, I like to travel and explore Arizona especially old mine towns. The place I love to spend my time in is Big Bear, CA. I would live there if I could.
In Ramona I always had "kritters" of all sorts but 10 years ago I began to raise and domesticate Wild Turkeys. I have many stories about that and would never advise anyone to do it unless they had a lot of free time, land and money to buy all the foods they require. At one time I had 23 indoor/outdoor cats. I am down to 4 cats now. I may be the crazy cat lady if I wasn't the crazy Turkey Lady. I love cats.
I lived in Ramona from 1977-2004 and moved back to Lakeside when my daddy passed on in 2003. That was the hardest thing I have ever had to endure. Before his death my daddy and I were babtised together on 9/11/03 ... it was a precious moment and gives me comfort. I sometimes sit in a daze, shocked that 9 of my close friends have passed on and all of them were under the age of 55.
I now live across the street from my Aunt and have some of my animals with me. If you spot a turkey near Los Coches Road push them this way it is one of mine on a walk about.
I now spend time with my God Daughters trying to tell them that the broken hearts they are having will not even be remembered in a few months and it is so not worth the tears. They don't listen.
Today at my Aunt's I asked my nephew if he had any of my teachers at El Cap and everyone started laughing. HOWEVER....Coach Till still Subs so..... I sometimes forget how much time has gone by. He did mention one teacher and I told him I did go to school with her BUT...it was not her it was her brother's DAUGHTER..... YIKES!!!
After reading the list of the Class of 1971 it seems like a lot of people are MIA. Then again there are 20+..that don't belong???
I don't think it's fair they ask us questions and we STILL have to check the answer. I am shocked they did not make us use a #2 pencil. I would rather answer those questions myself.
I am at this time looking at homes to re locate back up the hill to Julian area or Campo and the outback there.
