Paula's Story

Life Hey there, thanks for reading this! .......I retired from the phone company and decided on a new career in OTR trucking...I love love loved it!!! ..... but it interfered with owning a home, so I had to give up the road, and I got a local driving job as a chauffer. I also picked up a job at Greenfield Village, which I absolutely love. I am hoping some day to be able to go fulltime there and make enough to pay bills! I have 3 "kids" 2 daughters and a son, 39,38, and 25, and one grandaughter,18. I like to check here every now and then and see who they have "found" and see if there is anything going on. Looks like the Class of 70 decided to forgo a reunion for Roseville, but I did manage to go to Brablec's which was a very enjoyable evening.Even though I graduated from Roseville high school, I have fond memories of Sacred Heart and Brablec, along with Eastland Junior High and Fountain Elementary schools.......I was highly invested in St. Clement, my daughter and my granddaughter went there. I miss it! I keep looking at that link that says "be a reunion contact" and I am pretty sure some day I will click on it, not that anyone would even know who I am. I was worse than extrememly shy in high school, so I am pretty sure I blended in with the woodwork well. I am wondering how many people would be interested in a picnic get together type of reunion. I know vacation time and money is scarce for a lot of people, but there is always a way! My son and daughter went to Center Line, so I like to keep tabs on that school too! Drop me a line! School hmmm...let me see...Steve Zinneti was my biggest Crush, but I felt humiliated when I asked John Kiley to the Sadie Hawkins dance. I really thought Miss Singer was fantastic, and I remember visiting Mr. Rudkin and Mr. Anderson at their homes with Fran Juliano. I would like to think if I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't have been so horribly shy and so worried about my looks, or not being capable of anything. I was a lot more comfortable at home being a tomboy, then I was at school trying to fit in and feel less geeky!! College No college for me....my folks couldn't afford it, and I was not encouraged. I applied at a couple schools to be a stewardess, but my dad put the kabash on that. He was willing to get me in as a secretary at Chrysler, but I ended up on my own, working at Abbey Nursing home and a string of pizza places, factories and bars until I settled down at Mich Bell telephone Company to work as a repair technician to support my two kids as a single parent. Workplace Well, I guess I already filled in the work bio....I stayed at Ma Bell until it changed to Ameritech and on to SBC...soon after SBC aquired AT&T I retired!! I LOVE being "retired" and I r...Expand for more
ecently aquired my CDL-A, so that I can dabble in a couple other careers for the rest of my life. I met a man that was 102 years old, he walked to church everyday, when I asked him all those "life" questions, he told me if he had it to do over again, he probably would have retired at 80, instead of waiting till he was 90 to retire.....I wanna be like THAT guy!!!!.......and to add a tad more, I am no longer on the truck, but still driving, just now I only drive people, I am at a transportation company so I thankfully get to spend more time at home, which is great, since my oldest daughter bought the house across the street from me, and I love it!! Now if I could just get my son to move back to Michigan from LA.....and he already told me that will NEVER happen!!!!!! I always wanted to be a stewardess when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a bad idea. As it turns out, they were stifling. I eat chocolate!!....but now I think I watch tv more to blow of steam If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have water, my cellphone, and comfortable shoes to be able to deal with the day-to-day. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is my GRANDMOTHER, because i HAVE SO MUCH TO TELL HER AND SHE WAS SO WISE. I enjoy watching sports, playing Wii games, reading, sight seeing and geocaching If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my backyard and add on a big waterfall with a stream and lots of plants. My dream home would be a high rise loft in downtown Detroit. If I won $100 million, I'd give a lot of it to my favorite charities, then spend the rest on starting a business in downtown Detoit, spending time traveling and mentoring young politians. My current age is 59. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be wrinkled and gray. I was so completely amused that it is not true My best friend would tell you I'm wild, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as quiet. I am lucky I have added a few pounds, because if I hadn't, I would be dressing like a twenty year old I share my home with my daughters cats, which I find annoying. In 10 years, I hope to be still fit and healthy. I'm going to get there by exercising and eating right. I met my oldest freind, Linda, in the nursing home where we worked as teenagers, and I guess we drifted together because we were both the only teenagers there. My first job was at Poppa Joes pizza, where I got paid 2.50 an hour to make pizza. What I remember most about it is the family I worked for, especially Alice. One of my strongest memories of childhood is Sister Borgia crying when she knew my parents were taking me out of the Catholic school, also President Kennedy's assasination and the men teachers crying.
