Caboose almost in place. So glad it's almost over.
First wheel assembly almost down. (yes, it WAS cold that day)
Getting ready to move the first wheel assembly into place.
The cranes are setting up to unload the wheel assemblies. The caboose body will be set upon those next. Prior to moving the caboose, we measured the wheel span and set the wheels in the correct position. The body set right
The tractor led the way and other than a few low hanging branches didn't have any problems.  The signs say it all... "Always Be Carefull"
We picked the route with the fewest overhead wires. We were under the height and weight limit and everything went smoothly but slow. We had a lot of followers (a regular convoy) and some of the sightseers followed us home a
Lucky for us we had some John Deere power! It pulled the truck up the driveway and the truck took it from there.
We had to run home for some farm equipment.
We had contacted the movers prior to buying the caboose so there were no surprised in cost. These guys were amazing! The only glitch was the snow. Here is the caboose on the trailer ready to go but the truck can't get any t
Two cranes were used to pick up the caboose and move it to a flat-bed truck. (the cranes can be seen in the background) The caboose is setting on the truck. The caboose was lifted off the wheel assemblies which are sitting
Prepararing the caboose for the moove took about 3 weeks. We removed as much as we could to avoid damage.
The caboose could not come up our driveway. There was not enough room to come up the drive so we had to cut a new temporary road through the cornfield. That took an extra day, but it worked out just fine. (this is the new "
Wesley being funny.
They scuffed up the gold paint but I came back later and touched it up.
I painted one gold to comemorate the last spike. Everyone was glad to finish this job!
Ian and Wesley.  Two tired kids. That was a lot of work for a 14 and a 17 year old!
John, Wesley and Ian. Two days of work.
Time to drive the spikes. There are four spikes for each tie. Thats a LOT of hammering. Those spike drivers are HEAVY and the spikes are hard to hit. Setting the ties was hard, but driving the spikes was harder!
This dandy little tool gages the space between the rails.
Ian is the expert. He has been working for several years at the railroad museum. He spent a lot of this summer repairing track.
