Paula's Story
I am widowed but have a long time partner who has also lost a mate. I live in a semirural area. I feed deer, quail and wild turkeys. I enjoy clouds and distant mountain ranges.
I have two adult children. One is married and has a little girl. My daughter is a patent attorney in the Washington, DC area.
My son lives in the Nagoya area of Japan. He teaches English as a second language to middle school students. He has a BA in linguistics. He is working on a second Bs in IT.

teacher and finally retired and became a published author. The second edition of my text "Tasks for the Veterinary Assistant" is to be released in June 2009.
I have a rare metabolic disease, mitochondrial encephalomyopathy, lactic acidosis, stroke-like episodes, MELAS. For me it affects primarily my nervous system, endocrine system and my muscles. I am nearly deaf. It is maternally inheritated. Both my children, granddaughter, brother and mother had/have MELAS. We cope well. No cure, no treatment except syptomatic.
