Paula's Story
Life
My Pets
No pets now; the last one passed on in Feb. 2011, although I have 2 'grandkitties'.
My Kids
I have two great daughters. The older, Dina, is married and lives in Washington state. The younger, Michelle, who is also married, works at Santa Clara County Social Services. By the way, Westmont High is a tradition in our family--my daughters, like my sister and me, both attended and graduated from Westmont.
My Job
I am retired from the local mass-transit agency here in Santa Clara County, VTA (aka County Transit). I was employed there for 25 years, first as a bus driver and then as a radio dispatcher. I supplemented my retirement by working part-time as a library page at Saratoga Library for 5 1/2 years, but I retired in August 2012, and now am fully retired.
School
I'm adding this information because I signed up as a parent as well as a student at Westmont. Both of my children went to and graduated from Westmont: the older in 1988 and the younger in 1997.
College
I didn't start college until almost 20 years after graduating high school. My major was accounting and I also took a lot of computer info system classes. I got a lot of credits, but never a degree.
Workplace
I...Expand for more
started out working as an assistant to an optometrist, and worked at that for 7 years. In 1980 I made a drastic change and started driving a city bus for Santa Clara County Transit (now VTA) and continued working there until December 2005. I stopped driving buses in 1999 and started working in OCC radio dispatch (bus). In December 2005 I retired from VTA so I could care for my Mom full time. I was hoping to keep her at home, but in the end she needed much more care than I could give her because she became a complete invalid. Since the fall of 2006 she has been in a nursing home. After Mom went to the nursing home I started working part-time at Saratoga Library as an extra-help library page to supplement my retirement income. Well, in Nov. of 2011, my Mom passed away, and everything completely changed in my life. My older daughter and son-in-law wanted me to move in with them, so after weighing the pros and cons, I decided it would be a good idea to kind of start over, so I moved to Washington state with them for awhile. I now have moved out and live in Salem, Oregon.
Photos
In my profile photos there is a photo of my mom when she graduated from high school in 1937. That's not me!
