Paula's Story

Life In 1995 I got married, for the first time. My husband's name is Jeff. I still live in Southern CA. My husband and I just (August 1, 2003) bought our 1st house. It's in Quail Valley which is near Lake Elsinor. I was a restaurant manager at a Denny's in Huntington Beach. In August 2011 I lost my job due to down sizing. Jeff was a Xerox repair tech (he's unemployeed also). Jeff and I don't have any children (not by choice). We do have 2 cats, a male, Mosey and a female, Nosey. They are siblings and we've had the since them since May 2007, since they were 6 weeks old. Jeff and I met when we both worked as manager at Burger King. He is 7 years younger than me. Since I have been unemployeed I have rediscovered my enjoyment in cooking. In fact once a week I go to my in-laws house and cook dinner for them. Also since I have been out of work, I've started walking every day. I walk about half a mile every morning. I'm trying to get healthier. My sister, Chrystie passed away in June 2004. After she passed away I realized I would never see her tattoo again and that now no one in the Wurzer family had a tattoo. In June 2005 I got a yellow rose (Chrystie's favorite color) with "Chrystie" beneath it tattooed to my left shoulder blade (Chrystie had a red rose on her left breast). My mother passed away in 1997. My father is still living in Torrance. My brother, Randy, got married in 1992 and has 2 sons, Thomas (born in 1993) and Robert (born in 1998). Randy's wife, Borey, is from Cambodia.. School I went to 223rd Street school for elementry school (it's now Meyler Street). Most of my friends from elementry school went to Steven White Jr. High, but we lived in Flemings district, so I went there. It was a little scary for me since most of my friends weren't going there and I am the oldest child in my family, so it was uncharter territory. I survived. After Fleming came Narbonne. In a way going to Fleming and Narbonne was kind of a Wurzer family tradition. In the 40's when my father (Paul Wurzer) was in high school, Narbonne Jr. and Sr. high school was where Fleming is now and that is where my dad went to school. om Narbonne and in 1973 Paula Wurzer graduated from Narbonne. I think that's kind of neat. College I had planned to go to Harbor Jr. College for a couple of years, then go to UCLA. I had planned to become a pediatrician. I went to Harbor for 3 years instead of 2 . I never did make it to UCLA. I had fun at Harbor. I took some classes just for fun, including choir for 3 years. I went back to Harbor for another year in 1987. One of these days I like to go back to school and get my degree, especially since in 2001 my husband got his associate degree in 2001 and his bachlors in 2003 (in Electrical Engioneering Technology, from ITT). Workplace After I left college I went to work for some family friends at a square dance studio in Torrance. I worked there for about a year, the Robin Yetman hepled me get a job at a deli In Rancho Palos Verdi. I worked there for about 3 years, then the wife of the owner of the deli helped me get a job at Crocker bank in Rolling Hills Estates. I worked there for about 5 years. I started as a teller, then I became the vault teller and before I left I was the Operations supervisor. I took a couple years off from working then 1988 I got a job at a Burger King in Costa Mesa. I started as a cashier and with in a year I became an assistant manager. I had moved to a Burger King in Huntington Beach by then. I was transferred to a Burger King in Orange about a year later and promoted to Genreal manager. I worked for BK for 8 years, going back to the BK in Huntington Beach then ending with a BK in Tustin. In 1996 I left BK and became a manager at Denny's. I trained at a Denny's in Huntington Beach (Edinger and Gothard), then I was transfereed to the Denny's in Stanton. I was there for a year or 2. I was transferred to the Denny's on Beach and Main in Huntington Beach where I was until July 2003 when I was transferred back to the Denny's I trained in. In July 2011, the Denny's on Edinger lost it's lease and was forced to close. Because my owner could not afford to pay 2 salary managers and I had the least seniority, I was let go. I am currently looking for work but not very optomistic, given the economy and my age.
