Paula Tackett:  

My last name was (Flores) now Paula Lorenzo- Tackett. I love the Foothill Mustangs, Orange/Black; I don't remember the high school fight song. Orange & Black are my favorite colors today, they are also the colors of Harley Davidson, and I have 5 Harley's. I won't go into a lot of other stuff, from my high school daze, because that's all it is, just stuff. The people that did come into my life then and now still have enriched my life which has helped me to better understand who I was then and what my purpose here on Mother Earth is today. To them I say Thank You. (I'll write about some of my life growing up at Foothill at a later date). In 1978 my life took a huge turn, I had 2 children and one on the way, my husband of several years was very ill, in and out of the hospital monthly sometimes weekly. His lungs were giving out, the doctors were with him every step of the way, there was nothing they could do, and all we could do was to keep him comfortable and wait. I always thought that he would be with me and the children forever. He passed away in the hospital after a month’s stay in the summer of "78"; he was 32 year of age. I can't begin to tell you the surge of feelings I had, all the why's and what's and the should have's, and there must have been something we could do. Now there's only me, I wanted time and space to stop. How will I go on without my husband James? This was not a pleasant place to be. To fast forward, its late 1980's, my life is now taking a big turn, I'm working at a job that never crossed my mind, "Bingo". I loved my job; at least it wasn’t picking tomatoes on a hot summer’s day or at 3am on a cold September morning. I'm also very involved with my Tribe, Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, (formerly known as the - Rumsey Indian Rancheria). "Yocha DeHe Wintun Nation” and the Bingo Hall have developed to a beautiful destination resort along with our prize winning Yocha DeHe Golf Course, Cache Creek Casino Resorts. I am Paula Lorenzo and my role as Tribal Chair, a leader of my Tribe and CEO of Cache Creek Casino resorts was a large learning experience.
