Paula's Story

Life Just moved to Reno, Nevada last April. Still flying for United Airlines...been with them for 35+ years and tryng to plan how and where and when I will retire from United!! Working for Ual has changed alot...paycuts, pension loss , and Ceo"s on the take! I know some of you can relate also. That's whats happening in America now! I am also working for the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino here in Reno. It's fun and extra money! Trying to see if I want to retire in Nevada or go back to California! At this time I plan on spending my retirement half in the US and half in Costa Rica. Who know's if things get worse here in the States I might just go live in Costa Rica! I can't beleive how fast time goes now. Since this last posting I will now have 41 years in Feb with working as a flight attendant for United Airlines. Still have my permanate address in Reno, Nevada. Still skiing and enjoying the outdoors here in Nevada, although I have been forced to take a break! 4 broken ribs. Caused by me thinking I was much younger than my age of 62. Funny how we never feel we are getting older, but we are! As of today I still have my options on where I want to retire or simi retire. I have been single since 1994 and never had children.Nothing really holds me down(except these broken ribs right now!).The next time you get on a United Airlines international flight to Peking or Shanghai or Frankfurt look for me. I just might be working your flight. Or ask when you fly if they know me. I was based in Los Angeles forever and now I am flying out of San Francisco. Some one might know me and hopefully they will treat you well and maybe give you a drink or something special from me. 2014.... Still here, and waiting for the next reunion to see you all! Not so good at the new " united...oh sorry continental" ! Just hoping to survive another 2 or 3 years...and I'm out! Hope to be able to travel, for pleasure, without a walker or Cain! Don't get me wrong...I still love my job as a flight attendant...I have been blessed. Not going to get rich with the pay check..but I am rich with experience and a passion for what I have done for 43 years. I did win 4 th place in customer appreciation (system wide) mileage plus program. I don't feel I did anything special, but I guess someone felt I did. I won..2,500.00 . Makes me feel like maybe my 43 years has been appreciated by someone..and I did nothing more than what I I would have done in all of my years with this company. I can be contacted on Linkedon , my e mail is there if anyone would like to contact me. 7/2022 wow we’re does the time go?! COVID has come and gone and back in full swing again. I’ve been blessed with not getting Covid . I was unfortunate enough to break almost the whole left side of my ribs front and back. In feb of 2020 it was a blessing in disguise’ I didn’t have to go to work for the whole year was off on disability. Then when I was suppose to come back to work United offered a great severance package with pay, Benifits as active and pass Benifits til 2026 as active and then go on retirement passes. A no brainer , I really didn’t want to go back to work and I decided to take it! I will be officially retired August 31st. It was quite an adjustment I was depressed and had a lot of anxiety! I didn’t really miss United but I missed my passengers and the lifestyle. I snapped out of it and started doing “as I say the best paying job I’ve ever had” I have been volunteering for about 1 year with St. Vincent de Paul. I am giving back, I feed the homeless and the working poor here in Reno and sparks. I also have go...Expand for more
tten into advocating for affordable housing and the homeless , speaking at city council meetings, having one on one discussions with county supervisors. And I only thought this would be one day a week!! It’s a calling and I love it! It only takes one accident, health problem loss of job to become homeless ! I am so blessed that I am secure. I sold Costa Rica so it’s only Reno and my place in Oxnard that I rent out. I think I’m going to stay in Reno for now but love to keep my options open! I’m starting to get back to the old Paula traveling!! I’m going to the Azores in October and I’m doing a bucket trip in January to Patagonia and the lake region of Argentina and then a 14 day excursion to Antarctica. I’m doing this by myself.. a little nervous but excited! I’d like to go to Scotland and wales , chilie and Easter island , and Norway and the forges maybe next year if I can fit it all in.! I’m well on my way to seeing this entire world I’m so blessed and hoping you all are too. 3/29/23 Been officially retired from United for 7 months. I love being retired, never thought I’d say that! A total of 511/2 years. Wow what a nice ride. I’ve been to 7 continents now. Azores was great , “Hawaii 50 years ago! Cheap and islands are so beautiful wonderful people. It’s a secret…retire there for 500.00 a month Patigonia , Bariloche so beautiful had lots of fun in the outdoors, 6 day trip then my 14 day excursion to Antarctica unbelievable, I can’t even begin to describe this once in a life time trip. If you go don’t go on big cruise ships all you be able to say is” I saw Antartica” overseas adventure tours is the way to go. It’s an expensive trip but one you will never , never forget! Zodiac tours and the best zodiac landings all over Antartica. Plus it’s not a Viking boat . 100 people total broke up in 4 groups of 25. It was luxurious, food was perfecto all free wine and beer plus nights that they had free cocktail . Cozy everyone knew you name. Met new lifetime friends. Next trip is to Scotland for 10 days. For those of you that have read Diana gabaldon’s series starting with outlander , you might have seen it on starsz tv. Great series . Hope to see all the places in the book!. I’m going in may. Then I’m off to Norway on a cruise thru the figourds in June. I’ve had many people say they live thru me and love to hear about my adventures. So I’ll update as I go on…🤪 7/28/2023 Well I’ve been retired for 11! Months! The best thing I’ve done quite an adjustment but loving it. I did go to Scotland in may, such a wonderful experience, and I did do a cruise trip in June to Norway the fijords. Not a cruiser but it was great. I’m going to turkey in September-October a 17 day trip , going alone my girlfriend backed out saying she didn’t feel safe, but funny she goes to Mexico with the cartel killing people right and left!! It’s hard to find travel companions that one is comparable with.. so I just go ahead and do my thing by myself🥲 I’m interested in going to chile and Easter island ant takers?? Still working with the homeless🥰. 3/2004 I made it to chilie and Easter island what a wonderful trip. Still don’t know who moved the moens Now I’m going on a car trip in June with my girlfriend and her son., were going to Sedona the Grand Canyon, and all around. I’m excited I haven’t done muchtraveling in us! Then in aug I'm going to Sicily for 17 days . Then oct to Malibu for my nieces wedding. Can’t wait she’s like my daughter. Then I decided to get out of the cold and go to Cuba in December . That takes care of this year.I'm still healthy and fit lovin’ life!!
