Paulette's Story
Well, that didn't last 3 years. Oh well. I still have my parrot, West Highland White and Siamese.
Update July 2016: Well, I did it! Got married again. My daughter gave me away on horseback and I married her dad, or I should say my ex. We were married for almost 30 years divorced a while and now are remarried. Still have a Westie, a Siamese, and my parrot is now 20 years old. Still at Sweet Briar but hope to retire in a year. Will be making a short "home to NY" trip later in August.
Best wishes!
Update Spring 2015: What a nasty winter for central Virginia, but nothing compared to the snow you received in the Hamburg, NY area! I understand it snowed on April 23rd! I hope all are well and enjoying life. I have been busy being an activist to help keep Sweet Briar College from closing. I have worked there for the past 13 years and my daughter got her undergrad degree there. I have taken as many classes as I could fit in my full-time schedule and have met the most wonderful, caring professors in my time there. The faculty, staff, alumnae and current students are in a court battle against the president and board trying to stop them from closing the school. It caught us al off guard when they made the announcement on March 3rd that this would be our last semester. The county attorney also has won an injunction in court to keep the school open for 60 days, well actually to prevent the president and board from spending the $83 million endowment on closing activities. So, I am possibly looking to change careers this summer. My best friend and I recently divorced, but are still best friends and our daughter is now working at Emory in Decatur (Atlanta) GA. I spent New Year's visiting her as she moved into her new apartment. It is a lovely area. I hope to visit NY this summer, but that depends on the job situation. I am not ready to retire completely, yet. Wish you all the best!
Paulette
Update Spring 2014:
Hope everyone is enjoying the summer! My daughter finished her Ph.D. and will be working as a research scientist in Charleston SC. This is a little closer to me than Ann Arbor, MI so I am about the half way point from NY to Charleston. But the speed limit is 70 most of the way there, so it seems closer. The ocean was beautiful as was the city. I am very fortunate to have her in my life.

Hey everyone! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Just found an old picture from 1970 Homecoming parade when we decided to enter a float for German Club. Any one heard from Elaine or Betty?
Maybe find me on facebook as f...Expand for more
riend of Deb Reardon or Marlena Krueger.
Moved to Virginia in 2002 and work as a project coordinator/ recruiter for the physics and engineering department and for the teacher education /masters of ed dept. at Sweet Briar College. (a women's college since 1901) Beautiful campus in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mts.(more than 3000 acres.) SBC has a great equestrienne program, and is the second women's college to have an engineering program.) Check out at sbc.edu
My only daughter, had her pilots license before her drivers licence! She is studying for a Ph.D. in the biopsychology/ neuroscience department at the University of Mich in Ann Arbor. She is studying dopamine and neurotransmitters and addictive behaviors. I miss her like crazy. Her boyfriend of seven plus years teaches at the U of Georgia in Athens and flies to MI 2 or 3 times a month to visit her. I am not entirely lonely - I do have my "Sweet Briar" daughters that have grown close to me their "other Mom" and they love to come and sit in the hot tub and listen to 80's music with me. So I do not have a lack of friends in their 20's - but definitely do my own age since moving to VA. The problem is they graduate in 4 years and I have to find new friends unless they stay in the area. Some of the faculty are young enough to be my children (if I had started VERY young.) Alas, they too, move just when you are comfortable with them. No one stays in the same place very long, so it seems. Everyone is so far away.
I have pets for company. A thoroughbred ex-race horse from Massachusetts, a crazy parrot, a West Highland White terrier, 15 Guinea fowll (had to give away because of the coyotes) and had a pair of kittens - Zsa Zsa a Himalayan and Ivan a blue point Siamese. My daughter confiscated the kittens last Christmas for company, so they live in Ann Arbor and I have her horse in VA. My husband, Peter Stransky (some may remember him from Kissing Bridge or Holiday Valley where he was the ski school director, or Ransom Oakes, Gowanda CC or Holiday Valley when he was a golf professional. He retired from Dartmouth a year ago and spends all his time at a resort about an hour and a half north called Massanutten, with golf year round or he enjoys teaching skiing instructors how to teach skiing - when there is snow. He is an emeritus member of Professional Ski Instructors of America - Eastern division, and spends much of the winter traveling from resort to resort up and down the eastern states as an examiner or clinical course conductor.
Best wishes all - Maybe see you at the Erie County Fair this year if I make it to NY in August.
