Paulette Weaver's Story

Not so much has changed...I'm still hyper-active, love anything new, ready to go at a moment's notice. Very active with Providence Presbyterian Church, a pre-civil war church. Currently a Stephen Minister and Ex-Officio of the PPC Church Women's Council. Currently an Elder and Clerk of Session. I have completed my term of office and now serve in the first of a three year term as a council member with The Charlotte Presbytery. This past June I was elected as a voting commissioner to the 220 General Assembly of Presbyterians PC(USA) in Pittsburgh, PA. Still singing II Alto - now a church choir. Love performing from the grand masters: Bach, Beethoven, and some new composers such as John Rutter. Love music, Symphonic, Opera, Classical Guitar, Light Jazz, Musicales, El Divo, SaraBeth Songs, and the "old" stuff, Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers, Green Eyes to shag dance by. Though with my Titanium knees, shagging is a little less smooth. That's what I get for snow skiing and water skiing all those years as well as wearing high heels all those years at the Airport. Now that I "hang out" in Southmont during the high lake season at High Rock Lake, I sing frequently with "Smiley" Tysinger at the VA Hospital in Salisbury and area assisted living residences. I still sing with Ron Nice as The PPC Moonlighters. I also guest soloist at Macedonia Methodist Church in Southmont -- my late father's home church. I love to write short stories. I enjoy knitting quirky evening purses and have exhibited them in area galleries. Married with one adult son, Roger (a former All ACC and All American at Chapel Hill under Coach Mack Brown) and three marvelous, wide-open, but mannerly grandchildren. Still love sports cars, but drive a 2006 Mercedes Crossover to haul pretties for my clients. Own a company called Redefining Charlotte. Well someone T-boned my ca this past year and it was totaled, so driving a Lexus 350 midsized SUV. Still a Republican, though most of the time I vote Independent. Former Communications Director for Charlotte/Douglas International Airport, retired in 2003. Still write -- nothing published as yet, but still hopeful. Would love to hear from any of the Jamestown crowd. Still an avid reader. Favorite books are Cannery Row, Atlas Shrugged and Les Miserables. Enjoy writing, photography, Cake Bread Chardonnay and a rare martini with friends at home so I don't have to worry about driving. Love dogs, still have Scottish Terriers, Jasmine Blue welcomed Amazing Grace in August to our home before she crossed over the rainbow bridge. Now only scotty girl Bailey survives. Still have my wit and humor...looks have been enhanced with wrinkles and silver streaks in my hair. Best to all former grads at L. U. C. Y Ragsdale High School. Sad news about Teeny Spoon's passing. We were friends, but then she was a friend to all. I was also sad to learn of Jim Pinnix's passing. He protected me on our ride on the Coney Island Roller Coaster our senior trip. Ya'll take care of yourself. I hope to see you at our next class luncheon at Jamestown's Cafeteria -- can't remember its formal name, but Ann Bowman Johnson does. Enjoy political discussions until they turn argumentative. Like to play bridge, but can't re...Expand for more
ally sit still long enough. Very involved over the years in Charlotte, former President of Charlotte Public Relations Society, Junior Woman's Club Woman of the Year, Recipient, EMMY Award (that's the one with the red carpet) for videography entitled The Creative Spirit. Video was presented on public television channels and at The John F. Kennedy Center. I served as a Regional Director for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for some 15-years for North and South Carolina. Chaired the Arts and Writing Foundation for some five years; served on the NFL Stadium Action Committee that brought Charlotte the Panthers! Fun times. It was only later that I would learn one looses income at the government level. I figured about $10,000 per national or local award. Served as communications specialist for the local airport, and later Airport Arts & Education Administration, a lengthy name for marketing! Earned award for my unique airport seating -- the Rocking chair. Southern Living mag still rates it among the top attractions for North Carolina, and more than a dozen airports have copied the idea. Have always loved a comfortable chair, the swing and the rocking chair help people relax. Always had more energy and couldn't be still. Second grade teacher said on my report card, "If only I could keep Paulette seated at her desk." After high school, spent freshman year at High Point College, and then transferred to Queens College in Charlotte where I focused studies on communications, marketing, and organizational management. Started on my masters, and got bored with the whole process -- wanted to stay involved with the urban scene in Charlotte. Somewhat quieter these days, enjoy my clients, and family and friends. Look forward to hearing from former classmates. The one person from my past whom I'd most like to see again is Jim Travis because he was a super nice guy and I still have unanswered questions. I still miss Suzanne Modlin. She was the inspiration behind my love of music -- she accompanied our quartet that performed on local radio and at civic events. I wonder where Paulette Armfield is, Jolene Groome. Used to have a crush on Van McGhee and Wayne Hatchell. Was amazed at how lovely Carol Pope's hair was, how black Bonnie Pounder's hair was. Loved the humor of Billy Ragsdale and Jerry together. So proud of our architect Gary Haynes. One of Charlotte's top interior designers is Claudia Hamlin King Thomas. Our class' top educator is Linda Poteat, still an award winning professor in Florida. Most traveled and most international are Wayne Jacobs and his wife Kathi. Didn't he just run a half-marathon...I just love that guy. We spent a lot of time together on the Thomas bus kits! Hard to believe Bucky Fagan is no longer with us. Tommy Earles -- so glad you and your significant other are still in love and that your "hip" (hope that is right) surgery went well. Where is Charles Armfield and William Mills? I see Ray Hall on FaceBook. Wayne Jacobs created a facebook page for our class. Al Munns and I have placed some written tributes on the site. Please visit. Mary Lynne Hightower "Charlie" Spears and I stay in touch with each other as does Beverly Herndon and I. Love seeing Kitty Hutchinson's photography.
