Pauline's Story

June 29, 2009 Greetings to MHS grads! I have had a very good life since leaving Miamisburg just after graduation in 1970. I attended Lees Jr. College (now part of UK Community College System) in Jackson, KY. I married my husband, Fred, at the end of my freshman year. We moved to Lexington where I attended UK and received my degree and teaching certificate in Dec, 1973. We moved back to Breathitt County, where I have been ever since. I taught school in Owsley Co. (1/2 year), and in Perry County (26 1/2 years) until I retired in Dec. 2000. I have two children and three grandchildren. My son Randall is in the music recording business and has his own bluegrass music label. I have been involved with this since retirement, but am gradually lessening my work with him. (I want to be just mamaw and not work). I have met some very interesting artists through this association. I was able to meet and be in the recording studio when Dolly Parton recorded 2 songs for him, and when Vince Gill recorded on a few tracks for us. er Marcia is an accountant with a non-profit agency here in the county. She has a daughter that is nine months old. I spend most of my time baby-sitting with Ashlynn. I have had a trying time for the last six years. My husband was diagnosed with cancer in Sept. 2003. He underwent 2 surgeries and numerous chemotherapy treatments before he passed away in Dec. 2006. We had been married for almost 36 years, so I have had to make adjustments. In 2006, I went from having a family of four at home to being alone. Randall married in October, Marcia married in November, and Fred died less than 3 weeks later. It has taken some time to adjust, but I think I am doing okay. In the last 2 1/2 years, I have been able to travel a little. I have been to New York City, a trip to the New England States on a fall foliage tour, to L A to visit my son's inlaws, to NC, SC, GA, and FL, and a southwest tour that included Memphis, OK City, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Denver, St. Louis, and points in between. I have a trip planned for VA Beach next month, and MI in August. I would love to here from classmates.
