Pauline's Story
Life...
I've read some of the bios of my old high school & college mates and can't help but to be astonished by how interesting their lives have turned out. Many of them have simply developed the talents or honed in on skills that were evident back in their youth. But the most enlightenment has come from the fact that I really didn't take the time to actually get to know them as individuals beyond the character roles they played. I guess that too is what being young is all about. If I could do it over, I'd make sure to take the time to get to know everyone better. It was such a missed opportunity.
I've led a decent life. No real drama-- which is what I prefer. I moved from my hometown Chicago area to the east coast which turned out to be a nice fit. I knew at age 17 that Chicago would not be where I'd spend my adult years... and I was right.
My first husband was also a Chicagoan. We divorced after 5 yrs. My current husband represents a match for me, made in heaven. We met in my new home state, Virginia. I've been married 14 years now and loving it all. We are finally empty nesters!! (laugh) We now have 12 grandchildren within a nice blended family of 2 sons from my 1st marriage and a son & daughter from his 1st.
With classmates.com, maybe some of us will reconnect in even more meaningful ways than we ever had in our pasts.
High School
I remember how some of us went all out to decorate those stupid old lockers. We lined...Expand for more
them in contact paper, mounted mirrors inside and even added special shelving. When someone had a birthday, I loved it when we had the surrounding lockers and the birthday person's, filled with decorations and best wishes. Others would stop by and sign the birthday cards. And I can't forget.... your friends would get you a stuffed animal to carry around. The bigger it was, the more popular you were.
I also enjoyed going to Lindblom's football games on the bus with the profane cheers with the cuss words mumbled or substituted cuz' we were such civilized students (hee-hee). I also remember how the other schools like Englewood, & Tilden wanted to kick our butts at the games or snatch us off the buses if they could.
Looking forward to attending the 45th Reunion next year!
College
I absolutely hated waiting in line for my food. I thought it was kinda weird that in my freshman year, the cafeteria door guard knew me by name when I came up in line-- Since we had to send our photo with our college application, I guess they had the handful of black students memorized or something. I guess that was their way of making sure they didn't accept more than 10%. I felt bored in college, but the key to giving me a reason to hang in there was making the Cheerleading Squad and becoming captain. Elmhurst College was...interesting.
I wish you all- Love...Peace & Soul!! (for lack of originality- Lol)
