Pearl's Story
As a new member of Classmates.com, I thought of filling in the blanks of the past 40 years. After graduating Pace College in New York City, I volunteered in Harlem in a school for multiply disabled children. I married and have two married sons, plus a grandson and one more on the way.
When my sons went on to college, I volunteered at the Hospital for Special Surgery in its clinic and lectured at colleges, hospitals, etc. in the hopes of educating people about people with disabilies. I spoke about myself, having first-hand experiences. After I spoke, I always had a Q & A period. I shall never forget the first question asked: that was, Can I have sex? Having brought my son along whom drove me, I just introduced him. Everyone was stunned but was made aware that disabled people have similar needs as " normal people."

sum up my short auto-biography, I'm adding my favorite quotes; "All men are created equal, but some are more equal than others." This is taken from a short book, "Animal Farm" written by George Orwell, which I read decades ago. I still find it true. The other quote is from myself and my sons always kid me about it. This is "Don't do as I do, do what I say." Wow!
Now it's Aug. 2015 and my life has drastically changed. I'm a grandma of 5, 3 boys & 2 girls ranging in age from 2 - 8 with one more on the way. Unbelievable! My sons live nearby, so I get to see my family often..
My mom died a year ago exactly one month after her 95th birthday. It was like she had a plan and did it her way. She left 2 daughters, 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. I really miss her and love her. She was my mom and my best frIend.
