Pedro's Story
Life
I have been through a lot since i graduated many years ago, experienced a lot of lessions of life, seen a lot of things that some people will never get to see. I don't have any kids and am still single, gotten close to getting married, but joining the military changed that, but don't regret joining. It's hard to be in a relationship while in the military. My family (parents, brothers, and sisters) are the ones who keep me from giving up, through them I get all the support that I will ever need. I've made a lot of friends throughout the US that I keep in touch with and plan to accomplish one of my goals of visiting every state, so far i have been to 15. Whenever I am done with the military, I want to buy a house, travel a little, and get a job I enjoy working. Before joining the military I worked with persons with mental disablities, I loved that work and my return after getting some more education in that field. I would like to get married someday and have kids, but right now it I am concentrating on making things easier for later on in life. I still remember things from when I was in school, boy I wish I could have told myself to speak up...Expand for more
more, I am not the shy person I once was.
Military
I left for basic training to Ft Jackson, SC on 6 Aug 03, got into the signal field (communications), did my AIT in Ft Gordon, Ga up until Christmas that year. I got to come home for Christmas leave and hometown recruiting until the middle of Jan, then was stationed in Mannheim Germany. While stationed in Germany, I was picked to go to Normandy, France to help set up communications for the 60th anniversary of D-Day, got to see some famous people, didn't get to see the president, but did see when he left by chopper. I am enjoying my military lifestyle thus far, I re-enlisted for another four more years. I would encourage others to join the military, but it isn't for everyone, my only regret is not joining shortly after graduating. On 28 April came back to Ft Gordon, Ga to reclass to different MOS (chose different one when I re-enlisted. Next duty station will be Ft Bragg, NC. Not sure how things will turn out later on, but just going with the flow, I hope I will have the chance to go home for our ten year reunion, looks like it may be difficult for me to get back there, to good ol Muscatine.
