I just recently retired from the V.A. Hospital in Portland after 32 years. I was the lead dental assistant and loved my job. It was tough saying goodbye to my co-workers and the patients but my husband, Norton, needed my help. He had been having vision problems and could no longer drive. Besides, I had been taking care of vets for all those years, it was time to take care of my favorite vet. Unfortunately, Nort died on July 8th at Portland International Raceway from a head injury. He had gone out to help some friends at the Historic Races. The track is our second home and the racing community is our second family. Norton and I met at O.T.I. and became friends after moving to Portland. He introduced me to racing in 1971 and I loved it (if you remember from highschool, I had that little Corvair). He raced a Super Vee and Formula Ford, I was his crew. We made many friends which I still keep in contact . In 1976, we were married and spent our honeymoon driving across country to Atlanta, to the Sports Car Club of America National Runnoffs (the best amateur racers in the U.S.).
