Peggy's Story
Life
If you are reading this, you probably remember that I was dating Mike Duffy in high school. I'm happy to report we were married in June of 1977 and celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary this year. We are the proud parents of three adult children, ages 21, 24, and 26, and still very much in love.
Since high school, I went to college a number of times, then worked full-time for IBM for almost 5 years, when I left to have my first child. I spent the next 10 years pretty much a stay-at-home mom (of three, two girls and a boy in that order), dabbling in a few part-time work experiences, and ultimately returning to school when the youngest was in first grade and going on to earn a graduate degree in English. and leasing in the commercial market.
Since marriage, we've lived in Mt. Vernon, NY, Yorktown Hts., NY, Belle Mead, NJ (outside Princeton) and, since 1990, here in Centreville, VA (outside Washington DC). My sister, who graduated in 1975, lives in NYC and NJ and we are very close.
College
I went to CUNY Lehman when I graduated Lincoln HS for a year as a nursing major, but after failing bedmaking I decided nursing was not for me. A year later I enrolled in SUNY Purchase. I stayed there a semester or so, then left to work full-time. When my youngest was in kindergarten, I returned to school here in Virginia as an adult student. In one year I had an Associates degree from Northern Virginia Community College, two years later a BA in English and four years later an MFA in Creative Writing, Concentration in Fiction, both from George Mason University. Some people do better as adults!
