Peggy's Story

Life Funny how life happens. I would never have thought mine would have taken the direction it did, but it has been a fun ride so far. At the very least, an educational one. After high school, I attended BSU with no real idea of what I would be when I grew up. I had a few vague plans, but life got in the way. I have run into a few high school friends over the years, but have made no effort to keep in touch with anyone. I got married for the 1st time just days before my 20th birthday. It was supposed to last forever.....That marriage barely lasted long enough to count, and I wouldn't mention it except for the children it produced. He left when I was 4 months pregnant with my 2nd child and hasn't been seen since. Good Riddance! I have been married to my 2nd husband for 11 years now. My husband and I were together for 6 years before he talked me into giving marriage a try again. (I was only single for 17 years in between marriages. I didn't want to make a rush decision) I have a total of 3 children, current ages 30, 28 & 9 years. The 2 older ones are married, and I have 1 grandchild that I get to spoil rotten and send home. My current husband officially adopted my 2 older children so there would be none of that "step" stuff. He is a wonderful, caring man, and I can hardly believe I deserve him. My career path wasn't what I expected either. I worked for the Boise School District for 3 years, but they don't pay their teachers enough, so I gave that up. I went to work for Horizon Air at the Boise Airport, and spent almost 20 years there. It was the kind of job where you never got bored, and rarely were 2 days the same. I learned a lot about life and people there, and had a lot of fun, but it could also be stressful with very long hours. It wasn't unusual, on a "bad" day, to work a 14 or 15 hour shift, get only a few minutes break, and feel like you would never be able to help all ...Expand for more
the people who wanted you to do something for them. But there were also a lot of days when you felt like you really did help someone, and those were the good days that kept you coming back for more. Besides, Horizon Air is where I met my husband, who is a pilot, so it will always have a fond place in my heart. In March, 2004, I decided I had done my duty for the airline industry. I was in the fortunate position to be able to retire, so I did. The next couple years of my life were both joyful and scary. On the happy side, my granddaughter was born a couple months after I retired. She is her mother all over again, and lots of fun to watch. On the more serious side of life, my son joined the Army shortly before I retired, and was sent to Iraq at the end of 2004. Officially he was a Scout. Unofficially he sat on very hot rooftops, or crawled through filthy muck with a sniper rifle. There were lots of things that happened there that he couldn't tell me about, and he still only talks about it in short bursts. Thank goodness he came home in one piece, though he does have a medical condition that he will have to deal with for the rest of his life, brought on by the stress of life over there, and the filthy living conditions. My personal belief is that this war was never a good thing for the US to get into, but my son felt he had a patriotic duty to do for his country, and I supported his decision. What else can a parent do? Now that he is home, life is in a happy place again. I have my younger child, a girl, who is now in 4th grade. I spend my time volunteering at her school, for her Girl Scout troop, and for her soccer team. Yes, I am a soccer mom. I have a wonderful family, a nice home, enough money so I don't have to worry about living paycheck to paycheck. I know I am very fortunate. Funny how things just worked out on their own. Like I said, it has been a fun ride so far.
