CLASS OF 1960

Peggy's Story

Life After graduating from Byars-Hall, I moved to Little Rock, Arkansas where I went to a business college for a year, and then went to work for a labor union, where I worked for 43 years before retiring in 2005. I married in 1962 and my husband and I were married for 42 years, before he passed away in 2006. We had two great sons, one a pathologist and the other a co-owner of a fireplace and a casual furniture store. In addition, he and two other partners have a physical therapy staffing business. I have four grandchildren, three girls and one boy, ages 4 to 13, and they keep me young and on my toes. My oldest son, the pathologist, married a daughter of one of the Browns' singing trio -- remember Jim Ed, Bonnie and Maxine of the 50's and 60's? My youngest son married a young woman from the Philipines, who is a physical therapist. I love to be on the go as much as possible. My favorite trips have included London, England, New York, San Diego, Las Vegas, Orlando (Walt Disney World), Winston-Salem, NC, Knoxville, West Palm Beach, and the beaches at Panama City, Destin and Cocoa Beach. Panama City Beach has always been a favorite since my husband and I went there just about every year from the time our kids were little until a couple of years before his death. I look forward to taking many more trips in the future. My take on politics lean to the liberal side, which makes for some interesting and lively family gatherings with my more conservative family members. But they still love me in spite of our good-hearted disagreements. And yes I met Bill Clint...Expand for more
on, when he was Governor, and even once sat across from and visited with him at a labor dinner we were both attending. Whether you like his politics or not, he's very personable. I love getting together with a couple of my best friends every month or so for dinner and wine and to catch up on each others' lives. One is an 82-year old with a teenage attitude. She's a hoot and loads of fun. The other is a younger attorney who's also lots of fun. Having fun in life is a big deal to me, regardless of what you are doing. I am the eternal optimist who embraces the saying "Live the life you love and love the life you live." There are times when everyone has sadness in their lives, but one has to try and get past that and look to the good ahead. Life is too short not to live it in happiness, but you have to make your own happiness; no one else can do that for you. My faith in God is very important to me; it has helped me through those sad times when they've come my way. I love the state of Arkansas, but it's always interesting when the Razorbacks play the Vols. It's hard to pull against Tennessee when they play Arkansas, so I'm not that disappointed if Arkansas loses to them or vice versa. In the twilight years of my life, my body tells me it's time to slow down, but my mind says differently, until I walk past a mirror and wonder who that "old lady" is. I love good books, good music, good wine, and good friends. My family is my rock of support and my faith sustains me. My life has been a good one and I have few complaints.
