Peggy's Story
I left Eureka shortly after graduation and found myself in SF and this is where I met my husband, Larry. We ended up in Madison, WI for three winters where our daughter, Erika, was born. We traveled with friends to Virgnia where we have been living ever since. Larry and I have made the test of time and were married for 40 years before his passing in 2011.
I have worked a variety of jobs that include being a nurse's aide in labor and delivery, and the newborn nursery at Martha Jefferson Hospital, Medical Office Assistant, Florist, and Executive Assistant to Academic Affairs at the Institute of Textile Technology in Charlottesville, VA. After 9/11, the Institute lost its funding and I found myself back in the job market, but ended up with a job that I thoroughly enjoy - at the University of Virginia. I work at the McIntire School of Commerce (BusinessWeek ranked #2 undergraduate business school in the nation for 2010, 2011, and 2012) and my current title is Assist. Director for Employer Relations, Commerce Career Services. I have lots of student interaction, work with employers and stellar colleagues, and I get to play with social media and graphic design. (Check out our Facebook account that I manage -...Expand for more
facebook,,,/CommerceUVA.) I often post pictures that I take and if you or someone you know is in the job market, this is a great resource for career/job search tips, etc.). I work in Mr. Jefferson's Academical Village (yes, they created this word to describe this historic location) and I love this work environment. I am a huge fan of Thomas Jefferson, too. I live in a very meaningful place of history. James Madison's estate is nearby as well as James Monroe. However, I never tire of visiting Monticello.
I have kept up with my music, but mostly in the form of singing. I have brought out my violin from time to time and play the autoharp, and most recently picked up playing the ukulele. However, photography is my current creative passion.
I live but five minutes frto my daughter, Erika, and her family (two granddaughters 13 and 17) and I do live in a beautiful place in Virginia. Now there are no redwoods, but the Blue Ridge Mountains are very settled and create a sense of calm for me. Crozet is in the foothills.
I volunteer at our local park and enjoy the sense of community our park provides. I enjoy yard work,
I wish all who read this great peace and thanks for taking the time to read this.
