Margaret's Story
Graduated June of '71 went to Stratford, Ont for family reunion and then started nursing school at age 17. Graduated nursing school 06/74 and moved to Seattle where I could work in an ICU. Returned to CA 1 year later to El Camino Hosp in Mt.View where I worked as Critical-Care RN for 10yrs. Married & moved to Boulder, CO & worked in ICU & was on ski patrol at Snowmass for a year. Returned to CA, was Head Nurse of Coronary Care Unit & then worked in dedicated open-heart ICU with Carol Kocjan (Logue). Lots of fun! Had a son, Kellen. Got divorced and left clinical nursing to work as Physician QI Coord for the County of Santa Clara monitoring the practice of 179 doctors. That was a hoot! A doctor that I worked with there moved to Bakersfield to build an HMO and created a job for me as Director of Member Services so I went there, built a house and helped build what became a 180,000 member HMO base...Expand for more
d out of LA. I then moved to San Francisco where I assisted in developing an Open Heart Surgery Program at Seton Medical Center in Daly City. By then I was beginning to grow tired of healthcare in general. I met and married a man I had known for many years and we bought a small but very old winery in Sonoma and semi-retired to a quieter life. We sold the winery several years later and I semi-retired to Santa Rosa. My house in Santa Rosa burned to the ground during the 2017 Wildfires and I became involved in the lawsuit against PG&E. I have lived in a small apt since then and though it has taken 4 yrs we won the lawsuit and are just now getting our $$. I am currently planning a 30-45 day cruise through the Mediterranean for somewhere around 2024 and purchasing a new home. That said, I currently live in a small apt. with my Miniature Schnauzer, Abby. I'm 68 and it's been a heck of a ride.
