Peggy's Story

As far back as I can remember, my "career" ambition was to be a mother. I have three children. I'm divorced. My oldest son is former Special Forces, and now a federal agent, married with no children. My daughter is divorced, has four children and works as a nursing assistant. My youngest son, who died in a freak accident in August 2000, was a very talented artist/sculptor. My current aspiration (mid-life crisis maybe)is to go back to Singapore for a visit. AMAZING place!! One of the Story Wizard's suggestions for topics here is, "What happened to your first crush?" You know, I was wondering about him last year, and actually found him online. I started to contact him, but we were all of 8-9 years old that summer when he kissed me on the cheek and sent my heart into overdrive. I finally did contact him, but then didn't return to the online site for quite sometime (don't remember why...life interrupted, I guess). Then one day at work, someone with the same (rather uncommon)last name came in, and I asked if she might be related to him. Turns out she was his daughter-in-law. I told her to please say "hello" to him for me, and she said he was deceased. I was stunned. Then, a little while later, I visited that online site again, and it turns out he had tried to contact me, too. It would have been great to touch base with my childhood crush, but I blew the opportunity. To make a long story short, people...we, the class of '64... aren't g...Expand for more
etting any younger. Don't let special opportunities slip by for B.S. reasons. If you've been thinking about a childhood or teen years friend, go for it. You've got nothing to lose, and perhaps a few warm memories to regain. MY FLASHBACK - Mrs. Rummel's gym class. I was pretty good at sports back then, but one thing I just never conquered was the game of basketball. I couldn't make a layup to save my life, and shooting from anywhere but directly under the basket was an assured airball. My older brother however, was a pretty good basketball player, and Mrs. Rummel kept throwing that in my face everytime I missed a shot or walked with the ball. One day, when I finally had enough of her comparing me to my brother, I announced for all to hear, "Yeah, well my name's not Bill, and I don't wear a jock strap!" That was the only time I was ever kicked out of a class. Hey...does anyone remember Mr. Nadisch (sp?). He taught history. I remember him talking about some medieval battle in class one day. He grabbed a pointer, leaped up onto the window sill and over to his desk, all the while brandishing his "sword," as he gave a running narrative of a particular battle. His classes were so dramatic that they inspired an interest in history that continues for me to this day. I'm not sure, but I believe he was only at the school for a year or two, but I will never forget his single handed re-enactment of that battle, and his obvious love of history.
