Penny's Story
Though Thomasville will always be my "hometown", I moved away during my junior year at Central High School. I attended Andrew College, graduated from Columbus State and Troy State Universities and with a great husband, raised a fabulous daughter. We welcomed a great son-in-law into our family and eventually were blessed with two perfect little granddaughters. During these years, I continued to play piano at church and serve the public through public education. In mid-2014 I retired as an elementary school principal. I stayed home for two months when I accepted two part-time positions -- one at CSU and one at St. Anne-Pacelli as Gifted Ed Coordinator. Though I loved my jobs, life took a different turn in just a few months.
Widowed in late 2014, I embraced a new world of being single in mid-life. During the Fall of 2015 I resigned my positions in Columbus to accept a job with the Governor's Office of Student Achievement. This is a field-based position and I relocated to Augusta, Georgia. Ironically (or I believe, God's timing), my daughter and husband accepted positions in the next county over just three weeks prior to my moving here.

Fast forward to 2016–I reconnected with my first love, Tracy Harper, from Central High School. We married in late 2017. Tracy and his daughter, Megan, moved to Evans that same year. We joined Wesley UMC and Journeys Sunday School class. By 2022 we have managed to purchase a lovely home, both have moved to part-time positions, survived a pandemic, graduated Megan from Belmont, and we have begun traveling as much as health, schedules, and finances allow. During these five years of marriage I have had several health issues and Tracy has been my rock. My mama passed away last year from Vascular Dementia and it was the hardest thing I have ever experienced. Losing a spouse and a parent are indescribable events but something most will experience. I am fortunate to be able to make a couple of trips each month to spend time with my Daddy and Tracy and I enjoy spending time with family here in Evans as well. We are looking forward to moving towards full retirement in a couple of years and are praying for good health and secured finances to see our beautiful world..
