Penny's Story
Life
I left high school fooled around for a couple of years and in 1984 I joined the Army. Spent 6.5 years there,I was married in 1988 to Mark Williams from Washington State the same wonderful person I have today. In 1990 I gave birth to my daughter Jessica, then followed Steven in 1992. Seven years later and finally coming to terms as not to have anymore children, God had different plans and on Mar. 15, 1999 I gave birth to Ashley and Austin the surprise of my life. I do miss my high school days when things that seemed so hard aren't really all that hard today. Looking forward to hearing from the class of 1982. Our life is getting ready to change a little here at the end of March 2003, we will be moving to Grand Forks AFB, ND My husband decided to enlist in the real Air Force so he would only have 8 yrs to retire. So we are off for another military adventure.
Workplace
I have basically been in the same career field since I was 16yrs old. I joined the Army as a Food Service Specialist. From there I decided I didn't like fast food. So for the past 7 years I have been working in Nutrition Services Departments in hospitals. So far in CO. TN. OH. Now ...Expand for more
I am looking for one in ND, When the twins get a little older I hope to go back to school to get a degree in nutrition. Well I found that hospital job. I worked just 5 days shy of my 90 day probationary time. Now I'm taking a less stressful job here on base. Which so far requires no weekends, holidays and nights. Well so much for the base job. I decided I like the stress. Working again for Village Inn think I will stick with this one for a while.
Military
What can I say about the military that hasn't already been said by great military leaders. It can either make you or break you. It kind of put me in the middle. I joined the military to build my self esteem and give me a little confidence to live in the real world. The military did that for me except, it doesn't tell you how to exist in the real world without all the organization. That I wasn't counting on. So before you and or your family get out, have an organized plan and stick with it. Such as a job or jobs. Good insurance. Routines for the kids especially small ones. Things like that. I enjoyed the military and if I could do it all over again I would but be a little more organized about it.
