Perry's Story
Life has been good. My wife Suzanne(Suzanne Schmidt WHS 62)& I have been very happily married for 61 years (April 63). We have three wonderful children, Julie 60, Brian 55 & Brad 50. All three have their college degrees & made wonderful choices for marriage. My daughter-in-law attended the Navy Academy. Each has blessed us with two grand kids so we have a total of six & we now have six great-grand children. We sold our Westchester home in Jan. of 78 & moved to rural Western Washington. We bought acreage so the kids could have horses. We also raised & showed Angus cows. The kids were very active in 4-H & scouting. My son Brian became an Eagle Scout & Brad achieved the rank of a Life Scout. I started working for NCR Corp. in 1962. I took an early retirement in Dec. of 1993 at 5O when NCR was purchased by AT&T. I was offered a job installing POS scanning systems for a large grocery store chain in the Northwest. I then restored three antique cars for others. I never grew out of the car craze from the time I was in Hi School. We have owned more cars then I care to remember including two 62 Corvettes that I wish I had kept. After owning 18 Model A Fords and as many as 6 at one time we're down to one Model A Ford, a 1931 Cabriolet. We also have a 32 Ford Cp & a 35 Ford Cp.., a 55 T-bird & a 55 Ford Fairlane for Sue. I recently purchased two Cushman Eagle motor scooters, a 1958 & a 1960 to relive my childhood. I had a Cushman step thru scooter when I was 14 & sold it when I got my 1st car. Both my wife & I are very active in the old car hobby & belong to several local & national clubs. My wife Suzanne retired in Aug. of 08 after running a large private school (550 kids & 45 teachers & helpers) for the Lutheran Church in Everett Wash. where she was employed for over 30 years. In 2010 Sue started a preschool pro...Expand for more
gram at our own church, Christ the King Lutheran in Snohomish. Where we've attended for 47 yrs. July 31st of '14 Sue retired a 2nd & final time. No more worries about snow days or getting subs. In March of 2019 we bought a small place in Goodyear AZ. After owning 3 motor homes we sold our class A Winnebago that we used to pull the Jeep. We went in 50/50 with my son Brad & purchased a boat, a Ski Natique & after 30 yrs. My son Brad & his wife Tina live on a beautiful lake only 7 miles from us, so we enjoy the water toys often.
I have fond memories of WHS. I know things aren't as we remember them though. The WHS 50 yr. reunion was great. & it was wonderful to see everyone. In Sept. of '12 we attended my wife's 50 yr. WHS reunion. In Sept. of 2015 we attended the 55th WHS reunion at the airport Marriot. Even though only about 80 attended it was fun to reconnect with old schoolmates.
On Nov. 16th 2017 I was involved I a very serious accident. My Jeep was struck by PU who's driver suffered a seizure. Police est. the PU's speed at 55 MPH. The Jeep landed 30 ft. from the impact point upside down in opposing traffic. My L-5 vertebrae was broken in 5 spots & the L-4 was cracked. I spent 3 days in the hosp. while the Drs. decided if I needed surgery. If I'd wear a heavy back brace for three months & not do anything physical I wouldn't need surgery. but it was a year recovery with PT. I'll will never be the same as before that accident. Your life can change in the blink of an eye. I now thank God every day for the gift of life. Ironically the accident happened on the way home from my yearly Dr. exam & I was in perfect health. We really miss our Jeeping trips to Moab Utah with the motor home. The best of luck to all of you & enjoy each day like it may be your last.
