Pete's Story

Howdy! Ok Here We Go! Life Story! I've got 20+ years to cover here, so it might take a bit! 84-88: Purdue: B.S. in Computer Science School was ok, but I spent a great deal of my time working for the computing center and hanging with friends. Truly, I was in the right place at the right time as my University job got me a job right out of college on the west coast. Highlights: Lots of late nights and Mountain Dew. Played lots of computer games, DnD, and board games. Lived it up. 88-92: Oregon: Worked for a computer company in Portland. My GF from college came out 6 months later and we shacked up in a house there. I grew my hair out and grew a beard. I learned about various activities people on the West Coast do. I followed the Grateful Dead during two summer tours, just because some friends were going. I learned about even more interesting activities people on the West Coast do there. Hightlights: Expanded Horizons, got a new hairstyle. 92-Now: Moved to Seattle to work with/for Microsoft. GF went south to the bay area. I've been working with/for Microsoft since that time. I met my future wife at a trade show in Vegas in fall of '92. We got on quite well from the start. Married my wife, Jennifer, in 1994 and later adopted her two kids so they're official "Apple"'s. Cut my hair (for the adoption) and learned how to run a baseball league and sell Girl Scout cookies. Kids are now 23 and 19. The 23 year old is married and has a son as of 8/08. So I'm a Grandpa! Let me see, interesting things. Obviously, I'm still big on the computer, just like in High School. It's worked out ok for me. I have lots of friends in the "industry". Since '92 I've worked at the Microsoft campus on various flavors of Windows. Windows NT, 95, 98, 2000, XP, Vista, and all the server versions. So if you're using a PC right now, the soft...Expand for more
ware that makes it go. My area of expertise are server systems, specifically the server clusters used for business - databases, corporate e-mail, etc. It's really interesting, fun work and I get to work with a number of intelligent folk. Challenging stuff. There's a big "Wired" type crowd around here in Seattle that keeps up with all that sort of "new media". I'm still pretty nerdy, but really embrace it since it's somewhat more acceptable then it used to be. :-) One of my best friends runs a computer game company so I'm in on early stuff with that and Microsoft. Wizards of the Coast is down the road and I know some folks there and at Paizo. I still play DnD and various other RPG's on a regular basis. Yes! Really! And I'm good with that. It's an excuse to get together with friends. :-) My wife Jennifer worked at Microsoft from 90-97, then retired to take care of the kids. Now that the kids are gone, she's going back to school for a Botany/Environmental science degree, which is what she wants to do when she "grows up". :-) She's pretty awesome, and puts up with my quirks. We love to cook, especially asian. My speciality is Indian food, the spicier the better. I also do a mean Thai and we love good Pho. I used to brew my own beer and have my own beer fridge with a keg tap but haven't for awhile because I had a ton left over from my daughter's wedding awhile back. We live in the foothills of the cascade mountains east of Seattle in a town called Sammamish. It's very scenic around here, hills and evergreens, hiking, mountains, skiing, the ocean, etc. I'm quite used to seeing green now so it's always disconcerting when I return home to the "flatlands". If you ever get out this way give me a shout! Well that's all I've got for now, I'm sure I'll think of some more later. Feel free to ask questions! Thanks for stopping by!
