Pete's Story

Life I was involved in Christian ministry work the past 20 years, serving as a senior pastor for 15 years. A few years after High School, I got serious and got my BS (Education/Religion), my MA (Religion), my Ph.D (Theology). I have been married 25 years (1981) to Joyce Modzel (Dellas). We have five children (ages 25, 22, 20, 17, 15) and four grandchildren. I also was heavily involved in several real estate ventures and stock investments that helped me to attain my financial goals. I just retired in 2005 at 43 years old! We have been doing a lot of traveling and have been spending time between our homes in the Atlantic City area (Egg Harbor Twp) and Florida Keys (Sugarloaf Key, just outside of Key West). Retirement has been great! Feel free to write me at pjdellas at h otmail dot com. School I enjoyed the time I spent at HPHS. I met many life-long friends, some of whom I still have contact. The times I spent at HPHS helped to shape the person I am to this day. If there are any teachers reading this, even though I may not have seemed to be listening, I was. And many other of your tough students probably are/were listening, too. Your job is often thankless, but it makes a difference. Feel free to write me at pjdellas at hot mail dot com. College Beginning in 1985 I started attending classes in various Bible topics and theology. I soon enrolled at Liberty University and graduated in 1989 with a BS degree in Religion and Education. I continued at Liberty, graduating in 1993 with a Masters (MA) in Religion. I was hooked on learning, so I enrolled at International Seminary in 1994 and s-l-o-w-l-y went through the Ph.D program. I did the class work in a couple of years, but didn't write and complete my dissertation until 2002. Because it was a complex and major undertaking, I took a long sabbatical from the ministry, completed the dissertation, defended it and was awarded the Ph.D in Theology. It was written in mostly English, but it had lots of Greek and Hebrew as well, with a few quotes i...Expand for more
n German, Latin and French. I never realized how much was involved in writing a defendable dissertation. The dissertation was a soteriology entitled "The Redemption of Creation" and discusses the salvific work of Christ beyond human redemption to the totality of creation itself. NO, don't call me Dr. Pete or Rev. Pete. Just Pete is fine. I am retired now anyway, so the pastoral title wouldn't apply. I still serve as a lay-person in my church when I am in town. Since we do a lot of traveling, I am not serving in any official capacity any longer. Feel free to write me at pjdellas at hot mail dot com. Workplace I was primarily involved in Christian ministry, serving as the senior pastor of a congregation of about 200 people in southern New Jersey from 1990 to 2005. I had to prepare several sermons a week, teach several Bible classes, counsel people on a variety of issues (drug & alcohol abuse, marriage & family, financial hardship, marital infidelity, etc.). It was (in fact) the counseling that I DIDN'T enjoy the most. It was the preaching and teaching that I DID enjoy the most. During my tenure I preformed over 60 weddings, almost 60 funerals, nearly 200 adult baptisms, and over 50 infant dedications. I also wrote extensively on the Book of Revelation (ooooohh!!) and created a study guide on that book. Besides the ministry, I was involved in several real estate ventures and in the stock market, having made sufficient money to retire in 2005. I look forward to using the free time to spend with family, friends and travel. Feel free to write me at pjdellas at hot mail dot com. Military Though I never served in the military, I support our troops and our president in this current war against Islamic Radicalism. As Thomas Paine once wrote, "'If there must be war let it be in my day, that my child may have peace." AMEN Addendum...May youngest daughter Katrina (18) is now in the US army and is preparing to become a Military Police (MP). Feel free to write me at pjdellas at hot mail dot com.
