Peter's Story

After graduation I joined the Air Force and was stationed in Tucson Az. Due to my father being ill I was honorably discharged after little more than a years service. Unfortunately my father passed away two months later. After the service I went to a technical school and was an electronics technician for about five years, after which I quit my job and went back to school. In 1990 I graduated from Merrimack College with a BA in Physics. I went to work at ARCON Corp. in Jan 1990 where I was hired as a Scientific Programmer. I did some graduate work in Physics at Northeastern University in Boston. I left ARCON in 1995 and later went to work for a short time at the MIT Center for Space Research. I left MIT for a much better position at Polaroid. In June of 2000 I was diagnosed with Acute My...Expand for more
eloid Leukemia (AML). I was first treated chemotherapy went right into remission where I have stayed ever since. Whew! :) I had to stay out of work for over a year before I was able to start job-hunting again. My new job hunt started in September of 2001 and due to the 9/11 attack the job market went to hell. After two years the job market recovered and I started to look for a job. Walking from the subway in Kendall Square to MIT and back caused a disk in my back to herniated. This problem turned out to be very severe and I had to have the disk removed. I am close to recovery and plan on going back to graduate school in the fall of 2008 to work on an MS in Health Physics. I hope to work at as a physicist in a hospital fighting cancer. That¿s about it! :) Best wishes to everyone Pete
